Question Quaife LSD Satisfaction Poll

I'm considering purchasing the Quaife LSD for my e92 335i. Upon initial search, I found some members who were quite dissatisfied with their LSD (whether due to difficulty with installation or due to unexpected results post-installation), and some who would take a bullet for their LSD.

Please vote and let us know your general evaluation of the LSD.

It makes big difference and it's very good aftermarket product. It's def worth of the money but not sure if it worth hassle(?). I had I big problems but after many twist I finally got it.

Would I do it again? Yes, especially now because I am sure there wouldn't be those problems again that I encountered.

Is it good? YES.

Worth of money? YES.

Worth of hassle? That is you to be decide.

I had mine installed by a good shop that had done them before. From the moment I rove it home it's performed flawlessly, as if it was a factory install.

Dollar for dollar, best mod I've done.

Do all the respondants here have the Quaife or is anyone running an actual clutch type LSD? The Clutch type seem to be more expensive and according to people who sell both, perform better. Any thoughts?

I'm very happy with my Quaife unit, it performs great and the dynamics of the car have changed favorably.

To me next to a tune this is my favorite mod.

From what I've read, the issue comes with the install. Rambino spent around $13k driving to get it working on his car. He gave up and sold the car rather than waste more money trying to get it right. I don't blame him.

Does this clank and make noises? Even when its in perfectly?

Of course I'm not sure at this point, but I assume it's an all-day procedure. I've called the BMW dealership in Austin, TX (the Dinan dealership where I purchased my Stage II flash) and my SA there is going to ask the technician if they can put the LSD in. I'll post the cost for labor and estimated time to install once I hear back. The only reason I'm doing it at the BMW dealership is because I have had a very hard time finding a qualified third-party technician to install the Quaife and it seems that the majority of problems experienced with Quaife are from botched installs. I'm willing to pay the price for less hassle (hence, my dishing out $2k for Dinan Flash).

Sorry, my breadth of knowledge regarding LSD's is limited... maybe someone else can help him out on this question? All I know concerning clutch vs gears is what is on the **********s.com website:

"Unlike a conventional plate-style limited slip differential, the BMW 335i E92 Quaife ATB Helical LSD differential relies on gears rather than clutch plates for its operation. That means it is much smoother in operation."

*shrug* and maybe gears are less maintenance than clutch plates?

If you read other LSD threads, you'll find that some people believe that (as evidenced by this poll as well)... and everyone has a right to an opinion so I put it as an option...

Absolutely without a doubt the second best mod on my car. JB2H is best mod, but the Quaife puts the power down without any issues. Kevin Bird, of Bird's UK told me that he has customers who replace the clutch-type LSD that is standard in the M3 with the Quaife. He also said that it performs better and requires no maintenance other than gear oil changes. The clutch type differential has wear plates that require periodic replacement. I'm not sure how often this must be done, but with the gears in the Quaife, it is not an issue.

How often does the oil need to be replaced in the Quaife LSD?

Check out Brett with KMS in Ohio. I literally had a local shop remove the rear end, mail it to him and have him install it. Cost a little more, but it's buttery smooth and makes zero noise.

Regarding too dangerous on the street - yes, if the driver does not know how to recover from sudden oversteer (eg - he gets off the throttle hard), it could be incredibly dangerous.

1) You had the rear end... REMOVED!? How much did the shipping cost!? How much did the total install cost??

2) +1 on the danger of ignorantly over-aggressive driving... gotta the LSD

Great to hear! Funny, I was planning on getting the H&R sways along with the Quaife LSD... how do you like your setup (asking because I will have the same setup minus the rims)... I'm assuming you're on ZSP suspension?

At first i didnt feel like doing sways, but body roll on this car (i have ZSP) is a bit more than on my old e46 330ci and bothered me a little.
So i desided to install them and could not be more happy with the result
Ride quality has not changed, but body roll is MUCH improved.
Highly recommend it

My 335i is junk without an LSD. The Quaife ATB is so far the best mod by far on my car.
