Do I have to scroll through 1000 artists to get to a song?

I have the Ipod integration option with idrive. About 6000 songs on the ipod. Trying to get artist name "Wu-Tang" ... i spent 18 minutes scrolling with the knob in the artist alphabetical order list just to get to "Buju Banton"...

this is ridiculous.

Am i missing something?

i was thinking the same thing, i dont have idrive but have ipod integration, and ive had to do the same several times, it sucks, they should have artists by letter, then u can go and select a specific artist, i dont think thats possible though, it sucks, i feel ya bro

Damn don't tell me that. I'm picking up my new 328 on Thursday and just told them to add the ipod integration today. That sucks if thats how you have to do it.

It use to be the same way with the 6FL option but not after a recent PROGMAN update that made it superfast to scroll now. I don't know about the dealer installed iPod option but I would recommend you create some playlists to circumvent this issue. Before the PROGMAN update that fixed this issue I had playlists for artists created for each letter of the alphabet as well as some general playlist to ease my iPod struggles.

Be lucky that you can scroll through 1000 or more... I have the dealer-installed MOST iPod solution and the most it will display is 500. So I can only see up to L for artists...

Just give the i-Drive wheel a spin like it's the Wheel of Fortune. That'll send it down to the end of the alphabet, then click up to W.

I changed the genre of each song to the first letter of the artist..this way I select genre and only have to scroll through the 26 letters of the alphabet..like for example W-> Wu-Tang-> ( the song you want)..

Playlists are great - and this works too -- use voice command and if Wu Tang is approximately #900 on your list, say 'track 890' and scroll from there.

No, you still can't select a letter. It's super fast when scrolling now and works great. You can go from A to Z in a matter of seconds.

It only takes about 10 minutes no matter how many songs you have. In iTunes, sort by artist. Then select the first song of the first "A". Scroll down and hold down shift while you select the last "A". Now they are all highlighted and you can change their genre as a group.

Repeat for each letter. I grouped all the number and odd character artists together. So I only had to do it 27 times = ~10 minutes.

Umm, why not use the simple "A-Z Search" that shows up first in the song list? Why make all of this harder than it needs to be?
