What oil to run?
Looking to see what oil everyone is running in their tuned 335is. Ive been jus using the BMW Synthetic 5W30. Is it ok to use the oil for the M// cars or use a little thicker blend in the summer. Please state what brand you guys are using and any advice on which one.

The oil cap actually has Castrol imprinted on it ........
since I change oil every 7500K; I use Royal Purple for the in between OC. Redline as well dependant on availability. ![]()

No. Heavier oil may not provide sufficient lubrication and heat transfer. More isn't necessarly better. Plus your gas mileage may suffer. Stick with BMW branded Castrol 5w-30 or Mobil One 0w-40. |

I have just gone from Martini to Royal Purple which I believe is superior. Will test oil at next interval (5,000K for me).
Take care with the viscosity as I once seized a g/box due to the oil being a tad too thick. Fritzables. |

The manufacturer's standard is LL01, which the Mobil 1 5W-30 sold in the United States does not meet. There is a version sold in Europe that does (Mobil 1 5W-30 ESP), which confuses the matter.
The correct Mobil 1 in the United States is the 0W-40. All oils that have met BMW's standards will have LL01 or LL04 in small print on the back of the bottle. |

BMW Recommonded Oil
Here you go: http: http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...ngineOils.aspx
http://www.bimmerfile.com/2009/03/11...ommended-oils/ I would stick to this list. Personally I choose to run Lubro Moly 5W-30...used and endorsed by BMW dealers in Europe (changed every 7500 mi.) You Can buy it at Bavarian Autosport. Been working out great for me.

Exactly, same goes for Castrol. It's the Made in Germany or GC 0W-30.

Just picked up some Mobil 1 0w-40 today. Advance Auto was having a sale, 5 qts of any Mobil 1 and a Mobil 1 oil filter for $29.99. I ended up getting two sets, but Mobil 1 doesn't have an oil filter for my BMW, so I got filters for my wife's car. I'll pick up some BMW oil filters when I'm ready to change.
