Chip Mods?

Hey what are the main drawbacks of chipping your car? Does it waste more fuel? does it mess with the warranty? and most importantly will it cause any future engine problems?

Yes, but by how much I do not know, Absolute YES, as a rule not from what I've heard.

E90's are different with valvetronic, but I had zero ill effects on my E30 325, or my E36 M3. No worse fuel economy, and more power

the E46 didn't have much gain at all from a chip, I don't believe dinan even quoted a gain at all.

A chip will not make your 325 into a 330

I have chipped many of my cars including my now sold X5 4.4i with Dinan Engine and auto tranny programming. I must say that the new programming was certainly noticeable. They advertised 15hp increase, but the thing that made it feel a lot faster is the remapped throttle response. Much better throttle response and the gearshifts were faster and much more crisp. The total bill was $900 bucks and I'd say it was well worth it. I did not notice any ill effects and in fact say better gas mileage after the new programming. It seems that the new tranny programming helped the car stay in the powerband during passing and never had to gear hunt when passing.

My M-Benz E55 AMG has Kleemann ECU and pully, along with some other goodies that bring the power to over 600hp and 660 lb-tq. But with that car, it's easy to make power since it's forced induction by way of a supercharger (kompressor).
