That's correct, with the EDC option you have an internal adjustment that can be done on the fly.

I want a local customer to install this kit so I can play with the EDC. We've had to ship everything else away

I don't think anyone has done a direct comparison but on the question of quality, both KW and Bilstein make very reputable suspension products. They are used in OE applications around the world and have a strong reputation for aftermarket and OE upgrades. Bilstein and KW back their suspension products with a full lifetime warranty so you can rest assured that it is a well backed setup.
In terms of smoothness and ride quality, both are going to be setup for a sporty street setup that is track worthy. The nice thing about the Bilstein kit is that you can adjust it on the fly but the adjustment range in terms of height and dampening will not be as flexible as the KW system which as manual adjustment for the stiffness of the shock. Hopefully we can get some members with both setups to chime in with their experiences as responses from those behind the wheel are the most helpful.
