Owners Clubs, Are They Worth the Money?

Who, if anyone on here is a member of the BMW Car Club GB? I used to be, my membership ran out this June and I never bothered renewing, for £45 (I think) per year, I got the club magazine and 10% off parts, which most places wouldn't honour, round here!

"Discount" insurance was horrendously expensive and I found the club to not be good, they didn't have run outs as I remember.

The Porsche club I found to be somewhat better but still not worth it for £75 p/a.

Now the MGOC - £30 p/a, there insurance is the cheapest going, they offer fantastic advice and even have their own workshop, at the HQ. Different kettle of fish completely and the cheapest too.

I would be interested to know how many of you on here are a member of the BMW CC, also what you think to it!

I joined to get the discount from Warranty Direct on the old car. Managed to get it for less than on my sister's Skoda Fabia as a result.

The magazine carries a lot of Total BMW stuff (mainly the hands on) and it tends to be aimed more towards the older cars. Having gone to an open day at a local dealer arranged by the clud I would also say that it seems to be a bunch of old guys with E30s. But then that's more up your street Porsha!

They do have a forum http://www.bmwcarclubforum.co.uk/forum/default.asp that you could take a peek at to check out the meets etc. Obviously there is the big show this weekend.

On balance I think that this forum offers a better club for us E9x drivers.

I joined BMWCCGB last year, after talking to Matt about the Warranty Direct Discount.

The E90 register section really needs sorting out, I think.

Mrs Viv has just asked me if that means you were a member of the Royal Society Of Cocks, and does it mean you were part of a disorganised bunch of cocks, Carl, honestly!?

She's smiling & wishes you all the best.

Lol thankyou for the replies.

I haven't found the BMWCC helpful I'm afraid at all, not impressed! Never been to one of their meets.

Just come back from a Local Classic Car meet tonight, was all very nice , got one next week as a prospective member, it does seem that more "classic" e.g. MG or "enthusiast" e.g. TVR marques have the best owners clubs.

Perhaps new and modern cars tend to centre around non-club-organised pay your subs type clubs and focus more on like we have here with the E90Post. Whereas MGs for instance don't tend to have good nonMGOC organised forums. It's all good though.

Another rather odd question - how many on here count themselves as car enthusiasts?

en·thu·si·ast (n-thz-st)
n. 1. One who is filled with enthusiasm; one who is ardently absorbed in an interest or pursuit: a baseball enthusiast.
2. A zealot; a fanatic.

[Greek enthousiasts, possessed person, from enthousiazein, to be inspired; see enthusiasm.]

I don't think I fall into the definition with regards to cars. Don't get me wrong, I like cars. Driving them is certainly better than walking to work. For other activities, yes, I'm an enthusiast. I wonder if anyone can figure something that enthuses me.

Thanks for the actual definition, I'm actually more interested in the actual origin meaning possessed person which is rather interesting!

Even based on the correct definition, yep I'm a Car Enthusiast.

As for something that enthuses you, oooo I like guessing games, erm Breakfasts, I remember having a conversation with you about a full breakfast list that is somewhere on here So perhaps you are a foodie?
