MINI is not having a problem with the automatic transmissions. The Previous gen of MINI's (2002-2006) were a problem with the CVT transmissions. They were crap. MINI is no longer using these anymore.
Now that being said, the new transmissions are made by ASIN. ASIN is huge company and is being used in 90% of the Toyota's in the world.
So, get a 2007+ MINI, stay away from the 2005-2008 Convertibles.
