Anyone taking their XI to the track? - BMW 3-Series (E90 E92) Forum

I've been toying around with my XI Coupe at the track the last few months. I wanted to solicate peoples feedback on how their car performs and what you've done to improve response/performance with it.

I got rid of the stock suspension (for sale for anyone interested) and replaced it with KWv3. Tremendous improvement.

Awaiting tires and rims (Kosie K1 and Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1SS) to see about bringing back some neutral feeling from the prodominate understeer.

Was curious about anyones attempts/success/failures with anti-sways, chassis brace, camber links, strut brace ...

I took my 335xi to Lime Rock last month. At the time it had the following mods: Dinan Stage 2, Dinan exhaust and Volk RE30 rims with PS2's. The car is a beast but the stock XI suspension sucks. I have a set of KW V3's sitting in my garage and that is getting installed this sunday. I am planning to take it back to the track at the end of September for Oktoberfest at Watkins Glen.

NICE! I looked at the times, I'd say the 335xi held it's own. I imagine with a few basic mods you could be running mid 70's.

I've got KW V3s, F/R UUC sways, Vorshlag camber plates (camber: -2.5F 2.0R toe in: 1/16 3/16). Car still pushes, but the alignment helps. I may be switching the UUC sways out for another set, but that's low on the priority list as of late. If you're tracking, I'd recommend camber plates as your next mod.

I've purchased some spacers to hopefully put a little more bite up front using Kosei 17s with Dunlop Direzza SS Z1 245/40/17s. Spacers will add 10mm total front and 5mm total rear. Next event is Calabogie. Hoping to have some sucess there.

Definitely play around with those tire pressures. They will make a significant difference to a understeer or oversteer happy car during hot track conditions.

I just took my stock 2008 e92 335xi to Audifest at Infineon (Sears Point) in Sonoma California and it was a great experience.

Loved the track and it was also great to drive an event where almost all the cars had AWD.

That being said, the XI held its own - it could really take an agressive line and come out of the corners fast. The most major things I noticed with the car were:
1) Body Roll (got a bit unsettling through the fast esses)
2) Needs more tire on the ground
3) Temp - it was only 70 degrees and I was still pushing 260 on the temp gauge.

our car make alot of heat to begin with. to hear that on the track it was at only 260 is pretty impressive. i gotta do something about my xi suspension. im thinking about the M3 upgrade from tischer.

i took my bone stock 328xi wagon with sport package (17") wheels and a BMW strut bar to BMWCCA driving school at Summit Point in WV. I left the track that afternoon with the biggest smile on my face.

By the end of the day I was passing modded e36 M3s with no problem and i still had a ton of potential to unleash driving skill wise, and from my car. i had dsc turned on the whole time and it didnt go off once and i was pushing the car, what i thought was hard.

i cant imagine what you all will experience with suspension and wheel/tire mods on the track...get ready for the time of your life.

Interesting that the dsc wasn't going off. I had to turn dtc/dsc off completely because it kept applying brake when trying to exit an apex. Once it was off, I could really manipulate the rotation of the car.

Yup. The DSC/DTC has to be off when you take the car to the limits otherwise the moment you reach the threshold of the cars traction capability, DSC/DTC will intervene with determental effects. No worries though since the car has so much understeer that it would take serious manoeuvres to get yourself into trouble oversteer. When you do get into oversteer scenario just watch out for the snap back as you come out of the oversteer correction. The car is nasty.

You know, most people I talk to say that it's easier to drive a weaker car fast around a track.

It's when you start to add power that you have to start managing it, and most folks are far worse at managing a powerful car than they think.
