Does this procedure apply to pre-LCI e90's with xenons? Reason I ask is that I replaced my AE bulbs with Lux LEDs a few months back and I believe the headlamp/bulb configuration for the pre-LCI AE's is different from the LCI models. It involved me removing the front wheel wells and the AE bulb sits close to the lower portion of the bumper, behind the wheel well! In other words, will this cause some complications with the bumper removal?

I've read through this thread and looked at my wife's car and have my gameplan for installing halo lights on her 328i. They didn't come with any instructions and they look like "plug and play" except for two wires that need to be spliced in somewhere (a black one and a white one). Can someone let me know where these get spliced to? I'm guessing the DRL's but I want to make sure before I start cutting and splicing. I've had them awhile and finally this weekend is the right combination of having the time and weather to do it so I'm looking forward to getting at it today. Thanks for the help!

yes this is what you do to install the M3 rep bumper. And whoever else that was asking, you can do this on the ground, you dont need to jack it up, but it would be a little easier if jacked up.

I did it recently and the only stuff that was ridiculous was the two screws on each side under the wheel arch under the liner. That was just inconvenient.

Some clarity on removal

Great thread and helped me loads to remove bumper on e91 2006 to replace my headlights (cracked lenses) which overall took about 5 hrs to do the lot but could probably do in 3 no problem now

Anyway, hope my observations on a couple of areas helps someone else - most is amply covered in previous details and photo's but a couple of areas weren't quite clear to me before starting..

Firstly - recommend jacking up, removing wheels AND front wheel arch liners - I didn't because of the blinkin lack of jack in a BMW due to those pesky runflats!!! (seriously BMW - they are rubbish and have put me off another!!)

Rant over, remove wheel arch liners if possible, or at least enough to free up space for the top bumper securing bolts attaching it ti the wing anyway - I had difficulty because of the limited space with wheel present - but turning the wheel outwards is best and then just a case of pulling out the liner as best as possible. Photo below shows the bumper off and you can see 1 of the 2 bolt holes at the top flange which bolt onto a mating inside return flange on the wing.

Washer jet covers - no springs or anything on mine (see photo) and I bust one but saved the other - they locate by locating 2 slots onto two short spigots on each side of the jet just about visible (dark black in photo) and dont even try just flexing the bumper away from the car before removing these which is what I did and 'PING' I was one down.

whoever said operate the washer and grab the nozzle before it goes back inside was genius!!! - but return spring is very strong so is a bit awkward too do single handed - needs 3 of you - one to operate the washer, one to grab the jet and one to carefully prise and wiggle off the cover.

BTW they are 14.88 from BMW, plus a can of paint and lacquer from halfords 13 and job done (BMW wanted 24 just for the paint aerosol, no lacquer).

Incidentally, top bolt at top rear corner of headlight assembly is a pig - takes a T30 torx and no room to maneouvre but at least once cracked 1/2 a turn just spins off.

i just swapped my oem's out, all in all less than 2 hours with some phone calls, txts, forgetting stuff inside, etc. i'd say plan on 2hrs. i did not remove the lamp washer stuff, i just CAREFULLY maneuvered th assy around the area to get the lamps/housing out enough to remove the bottom lamp screw. imo the biggest pain is the lamp screw in the upper corner in the wheel well.

unfortunately my oem's may go back in due to the adaptive malfunction light, unless i can find a solution.

I have a 2008 BMW 335XI. Do you agree to get at the 3rd bolt on the ballast that I have to take off the bumper to take out the drivers side head light and would you recommend doing it in the cold as I do not have access to a heated garage? Looks like I could save around $500 by doing it myself. Doesn't look to bad to do, but just trying to cost justify.

Just did this yesterday. Took about 20 mins to get it off and another 20 back on.

I used a 1/4" drive deep well 8mm socket and sometimes a 3" extension along with a T27 driver for the 4 screws under the hood.

I have an M sport bumper so there were a total of 9 8mm screws at the bottom, two in each wheel arch and two securing the top of the bumper.

Unclipped the bulbs from their harness and pulled the little wire clip off so i could get it loose. I did not need to fully remove the bumper as I only needed access behind it, but there were more torx screws at the bottom holding on a lower panel.
