How much off a demo?
Anyone has experience buying demos? How much off the sticker is the reasonable amount? Is buying a demo even recommended? Test-drivers are normally the ones who kick the **** out of the car, so it probably is not good for breaking in?

ive test driven 2 M3īs, 2 S4īs (went to two different BMW and Audi dealerships), 330 and E55. In each test drive i literally beat the shit out of the cas. Each had under 50 miles and i redlined them to the max, took to over 100mph and all with the sales guy next to me. And i know many other people who really beat the shit out of test drives like i did.
I personally would not buy a demo car cuz a person who test drives a 330 or performance car wants to test the speed. Better buy it new or wait a bit and get it used from someone who took care of the car. BD |

It's a very good question. You should also be wary of buying a car with more than about 50 miles on it. Some people would argue for less. If you order a car, it shouldn't have more than about 10 miles on it at most, but if you buy off the lot, I would say that 50 or 60 miles is OK.
A demo typically has at least 1,000 miles on it, and I would ask for at least $1000 off for every 500 miles on the car. This is just a rough estimate, but something in that range would be fair in my experience. |

I took a new E90 for a test drive that had 25km on it.
I had to wait until the dealer finished preping the car as it just arrived. I was the first one to drive it and as soon as we we left the lot, the salesman sitting beside me told me to see what it had. Well, we jack rabitt started from every light and then wound it out to approx 6000 RPM on deserted industrial park roads. All this in a car with 25 KM and being encourged to do so by the salesman. Pitty the poor guy that buys a demo.

BUT, that being said, my last car was a demo, and was one of the most reliable cars I have ever had. It never burned a drop of oil until the day I sold it at 9 years old and 100K miles. So do whatever you want, but just make the right decision for yourself. If you are leasing, you are making a much worse financial decision that buying a demo. No offense to you if you lease, but you are. |

Hmm i would never buy a demo, when i took a test drive with my salesperson he encouraged me to redline the car as often as I liked. And so I did, and also 100mph+ sprints and spirited cornering. I recommend you look for a car with low millage on the lot or just wait 1-2months for a new ordered car.
Craziest test drive I've had was on a porsche 911 turbo, the salesperson handed the keys to me and my dad and told us to take it for a drive. So we did and got it to 150mph on I 95 a couple of times , acceleration is incredible in that car keeps pulling like its taking off after 100 ![]()

Demo Car? That is like buying a rental. I drive rental cars 100+ days a year and beat the shit out of them the whole time. Neutral drops, High speed runs, leave it in first on the highway, rockfords, and everything else.
So far the guys in my department have wrecked 3 cars, put one on a gaurd rail, snaped CV joints, dropped drive shafts, bent frames, you get the idea. I would never buy anything that had more than 5 miles on it. stack |
