Launching the XI.....

Well i been trying to get some rough estimate times on my 335xi coupe and was wondering what is the best way to get 1/4 times and 0-60 tiomes.

Last night i tried launching without brake boost the first few times.

No brake boost. ALL DS mode

ALL TRACTIONS COMPLELETLY OFF(triangle with ! sign)=5.68 sec.
Normal Mode with nothing showing on dashboard.(No sign on dash)=5.43 sec

With brake boost. 2k RPM launch. ALL DS mode

ALL TRACTIONS COMPLELETLY OFF(triangle with ! sign)=5.16 sec.
Normal Mode with nothing showing on dashboard.(No sign on dash)=4.82 sec

THESE TIMES ARE WITH SSTT+AFE OILED INTAKE.

Not so impressive.

Now with these times, i was wondering why the xi gets better timing with tractions NOT turned off. I thought most people pull better times with everything completely off. Which wasnt the case in my runs.

Other thing is if i do not do the brake boost the car feels like the first gear pull lags ALOT without brake boost.

Few question are is it faster to launch the car in 2nd gear or 1st gear?
Does brake boost hurt the car or is it ok to do?

The car feels a bit more sluggish when i turn all tractions off. Seems like the car is pushing from the rear tires but doesnt seem to have so much power untill 2nd or 3rd gear.

Any advice on how xi people launches the car. What rpm to brake boost.

For 6mt

all off
4200 rpm
60 feet:: 1.75 (at track)
0-60: 4.00 to 4.1 (on g-tech)
mod: AA procesor and CDV (clut delay valve)

with stock car:
4200 rpm
all off
60 feets: around 1.90 (at track)
0-60: 4.75 to 4.80 (on g-tech)

but this is for manual transmission

A+

I went to track once and only did 3 runs (6mt / SSTT). I couldn't get the clutch to grip. Without the CDV would your clutch slip like hell?

The best I could manage was a 1.95 60'. Which was a little dissappointing. With my previous car (Mazdaspeed6) I could get low 1.8x 60' all day long and the occasional 1.7x 60' completely stock. And it probably had 80whp less.

Turning the DTC all the way off adds about .2 to my 1/4 mile times (60 ft) in my experience. I could feel xDrive bog things down by transfering torque between the axles during hard launches (likely to prevent actual or perceived tire slipage).

Anyway, why turn it completely off when wheel spin isn't a problem with AWD? I found that the car did the best with DTC enabled (the one second button push) which allows some wheel slippage (if there is any) but seems to maintain the torque split.

To launch (with a step.) I find that brake boosting to 2500 and M shifting between 6200-6500 yields the best results.

dude, may i ask where you're testing this out. PM me if anything

and from personal experience, i put it in DTC mode, not DSC/DTC off. Just do one press of the DTC button, stick it into M1, rev up to 2k, mash the throttle, and shift a little under 7000 (around 6500rpm)... just like what sparkplug said.

of course, our results won't be as good as other cars since:
1. AWD will 'bog' down the power a lot.
2. Auto Tranny.
3. Weight.

let me know when and where you do your pulls. maybe we can meet up and get some numbers down for comparison. let me know

You are in NJ so head to Englishtown for practice. With their timers and 60' information you can really tell when your launch technique is better. I launch the auto at 2500rpm, everything off, M1 mode. 1.96x 60's consistently without any issues. I did't get a chance to try just DS mode and mash because I wanted the consistency during bracket racing. I am sure the stock car will not do much better than a 1.9 60' with the step due to launch rev limitations.

Yes the cluth slip in 3th gear and 4th gear .Not each time but many time. With CDV the difference is incredible

i drive an sti but i think you launch the same way both are turbo awd

i do 1.7 to 1.8 60ft

i bounce between 4500 and 5500 rpm

and ease off the clutch

you want to burn a little clutch

if you dump it you will just bog

my best launches--at the track seem to be : (AT)

DSC all the way off, Car in M1, Build RPMS slowly (as Opposed to build and hold) to launch. Get 1.70-1.75 and 12.3 @113 --12.5@110 with JB2 and Catless DPs

so, i think this is a good place to propose a new thread. i was thinking that there should be a thread where people can post other cars that they've beaten in street races... by street races i mean when you come up to a stop light and there some guy in a civic (or whatever) next to you revving his engine. you lock eyes, nod and wait for the green. is it childish?: yes. dangerous and irresponsible?: yes.... fun?: of course! ... so i guess the purpose would be to see what kind of cars Xi's can go up against. you'd post what you can about the other car, the specs on yours, and the outcome... good idea? yes/no?
