few questions before become the first lower Xi owner

My questions are: 1. why ppl lower their car? just for close up the gap and looks better? That's the reason why i lower my golf IV. 2. Did anyone got complain by their parents or girlfriends for the bumpy ride? I always do. 3. For those ppl who have no zsp, can your oem shocks handle the lower spring well? Because I have to change to bilstein sport shock after I install the neuspeed sport spring to my golf, that ride it's much better, but still always hear the complains from the passanger. Thanks.

I never thought I wanted to lower my car, but after going on a track last weekend, the thought did cross my mind. To get better cornering/ less body roll with stiffer springs.

But then I'm back in Chicago and to realitly when I look and see all the things I would scrape on. Damn.

The roads are just really bad right now from the rains. It's like driving on an obstacle course everyday trying to avoid potholes and sinking manholes. I have to remember all the the potholes on my commute and what lane I need to be in at certain locations.

When I took it to the mountains a couple of weekends ago, the roads were in better shape than in the city and it wasn't as bad.

I lowered my current Xi for asthetics and for a better handling car. My new car will be lowered, too.

In normal driving conditions, 40% of the power is distributed to the front and 60% to the rear, preserving BMW's traditional rear-wheel drive bias. However, in more challenging conditions, the flow of torque can be varied all the way from 100:0 or 0:100, front-to-rear. If a rigid connection is required, the system can lock the front and rear axles, providing all-wheel drive with 50:50 power distribution.

I got an XI and I put on some High performance Tires....I can handle just as good or better than any non-XI out there, but of course lowering the car would look much better. my 2 cents

just because it fits doesn't mean it should be on there, and the dealer is probably telling you it shouldn't be on an xi. check the other threads- the ZSP springs don't appear to be made for the xi, as there are clearance issues with the AWD components. suppossedly, the sport pack for xi's doesn't include the springs because of those clearance issues.

sorry, i didn't get what you mean? are you saying the i's sport spring fits xi, just dealer just won't tell me or dealer not suggest to put them on xi. But they are really fits to xi?

they will fit, as in you can stick them on, but, when you go over a nice bump you will damage the transfer case (because of the properties of the springs). that's the gist of what i've got on other threads. so, it is strongly recommended to NOT put i springs on an xi. note, H&R have different parts for i and xi springs (from which, I would guess they made a similar finding that i and xi springs should not be interchangeable).

No. I am still not sure if I want to change any parts in the suspension (and, I have yet to receive the car). It looks like you and coupedupcivic(sp?) are close to getting springs- you may want to PM him and find out where he plans to go with his car.
