STILL no NEW suspension setups for the XI - BMW 3-Series (E90 E92) Forum

What they heck!!! It seems like so long ago when I posted up to vendors to get on manufacturer's arse's to develop NEW suspension setups for the xi.

Looks like Bilstein dropped the ball, Koni refuses to release any sort of shock for the XI and the only options still remain

HR Street coilovers - only height adjustable
HR Sport Springs - bouncy and harsh on potholes
KW V3 - give up your first born to buy a set....

We need some MORE options!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

Yeah, no one wants our money, f'in bastards.

I called Dinan yesterday and I told them they would sell 10's of kits if they had something for the XI, Koni is the issue.

Maybe we need to put pressure on Koni.

It looks like Koni has released shocks for the E46 XI, I guess it just takes them a long time to develop it...

I'm hoping come spring we have at least another option. If not I guess I'll be taking the dive and getting KW's as well.

You would think since KW already developed the v3's for the XI that they would do it for v1 and v2.

You would hope BMW would do something for our cars considering the xi suspsension is terrible.

I thought when I test drove the car is was good enough. Now after 5 months it is terrible, really bad for a $60k+ car. I expected better from BMW. My TL sport suspension was better

Even though our suspension was made to clear snow etc... at least provide us with a Rubicon Express lift.

At least it could be an option.

Audi are fine in the winter and my Tl was lowered and fine in the winter too.

If I wanted a high water mark vehicle I would have bought a SUV, this is a car.

BMW should be smacked the the head.

i feel you guys, for now every small bump/dip feels like i ran over a land mine. I feel like I'm a mine sweeper driving around Iraq or Afghanistan in an armored up BMW hitting IEDs clearing the path for our troops

Hmmm it seems to be just the shock. I wonder how these shocks would work with the H&R Springs?

Yeah, but I have some doubts on them. Huge $$ and more than I need.

I prefer a simpler solution of a good set of springs and shocks.

Weird, it worked earlier and they had struts that were available for the 335xi. Just no springs.

+1 If it comes down to it and KW v3 is going to be the only thing available then I'll break down and get them. Funny thing is, I'll probably move on suspension in the spring, so hopefully more options become available.

but i spoke with bmw regarding the bumpy ride on the stock xi suspension.. and they said that nothing they can do.. my e46 xi had better suspension =(

i agree with most of you .. its embarrassing paying this much for a car and having such bad suspension.

For those that have spent time in both a 335i and 335xi (or just know more about suspension on them than I), what is it exactly that makes the 335XI so bad?

I've only driven my 08 335XI (sport pack w/18" 162s) but what struck me as odd:
1) The front tires hit bumps like you just drove over a curb you'd didn't see. The first time it happened to me I checked my windshield for cracks as well as the rims for dents...
2) The car tends to "bounce" a lot. It seems like there's no suspension travel so that when I hit a decent dip in the road, instead of the wheel dropping to follow the road downward the whole car moves down, then up. I literally bounce away from the seat bottom sometimes.

My previous car was a 2004 G35X with 17" wheels and I had none of these problems.

The 335XI seems to handle small bumps ok but moderate and larger are totally shocking.

Does anyone have a good technical explanation based on fact and observation rather than just guessing why this happens? eg is the suspension bottoming out, 18" rims and runflats too unforgiving, etc.

What exactly do the KWs do that makes people like them so much.

I think Orb might know best but I think BMW has a spring that as a low K valvue that results in a soft ride but not tight control whed pushed hard. I cannot prove it thoguh.

I also think the shocks hav a slow rebound setting but a fast compressions setting. taht is why when you hit a small bum thigs are absorbed well but large bumps bottom out the suspension or that is how it feels.

Either way, shitty set up for a sports car.

Humtek, we'll have new suspension to go with our VS8, hopefully.
