335xi build ( AD-E,PURE,HEXON,VRSF ) :D

Hey guys,

Just wanted to document my build and wanted to share some pictures/experiences and information. Bought my car last year around June of 2015, and immediately went FBO within the first month.
VRSF 7" FMIC
VRSF Chargepipe with Tial BOV
VRSF Catless downpipes
MHD w/ WedgePerformance Tuning.

Had some fun on stock turbos on pump gas. Then I really decided to push it and get a Fuel-It Stage 2 LPFP upgrade. Talked to Ken @ WedgePerformance and was tuned on E60 for a couple of months. Then the inlet craze happened and I had to have inlets. Well I ordered VRSF Inlets and turned up the boost. I had an issue with my VRSF chargepipe at the lower fmic piping connection. The coupler would keep coming off no matter how tight the clamps where and I reached out to Tiago and he sent me a new longer coupler that fixed that issue. Then I blew my turbos at the end of the season at the track trying to break into 11s. Maybe it was my tire setup, fueling mixing was off, not really sure what it was. Anyways, I luckily got them replaced at BMW and just laid low for a while. Then I decided I wanted more power and ordered turbos.

Hexon RR600's

Ordered them around end of May. Wayne was really good at replying and everything seemed good until mid to end of June? Wayne stopped replying to my emails or messages and I was getting frustrated. After multiple messages and constant emailing, I finally received my turbos 2nd week of July. Got the install kit from ECS tuning, Liqui Moly 5w-40 oil and Mann filter kit so we were all set to put these turbos on and get more power. In the meantime while all this was brewing, I added some other mods as well.

10PSI Spring for Tial BOV & 1/4" Intake Manifold Tap
Custom Peterson Oil Catch Can setup
Precision Raceworks Inlets
Precision Raceworks DTM headlight ring kit
Front M-Tech bumper
PE muffler mod
KW v3 coilovers
APEX Arc-8s w/ MPSS tires
LCI tail lights
CF interior wrap

So we put the turbos on at the end of July and let her rip. The PR Inlets and DTM kit were top notch. KW v3s are a MUST on xi cars! I cannot believe what I was missing out on LOL. The ride felt firmer than factory but wasn't too bad. Felt like a new car honestly with everything! Handled way better at high speeds and cornering was a breeze. Body roll was non-existent and I would highly recommend KWs for any 335 owner. The wheel/tire setup made it even better. The wheels looked great and the tires gripped very well. The car ran fine for a couple of days. Got a base pump tune that was around 18psi just to make sure everything was okay before turning the boost up and having some real fun. I put about 400ish miles on the turbos and then came the bad part LOL. Was on my way to a friend's house cruising on the highway, heard a pop and then a loud siren. My heart dropped. I pulled over and checked under the hood. Rear turbo blew. Just my luck. That was around the same time that other guy posted about having issues with Hexon and their warranty. Well, after talking to a couple of people, I decided to contact Jesse @ Pure turbos to help with my situation. His customer service was great and replied to all my questions and concerns in a timely manner. I placed an order for a set of Stage 2 N54 turbos and hoped for the best.

Pure Stage 2

In the meantime while I was waiting for the turbos, I decided to upgrade some parts and do some maintenance on the car since it has been sitting and I wanted to freshen her up.

New NGK plugs
Motul 300v 5w-40
AD-E 650hp FMIC
Cut off Secondary Cats to be sure they weren't clogged
3.5MM Vac lines
New o2 sensors
New Boost solenoids

Just got the turbos last week and put them on over the weekend. Flushed the car with oil to make sure there was no contamination from blown Hexons. Put the pures on and turned her on for the first time. The spool sound from these are INSANE! I really appreciate everything Jesse did to help me out. Just wanted to document the entire build and share some pictures. Got her on a pump tune and just want to make sure the car will last longer than 500 miles before messing with it again haha

Future plans:
fueling upgrade to stage 3
Wait for hpfp upgrade instead of PI ( if that'll ever happen)
Rear M-tech ( already ordered )
M3 side skirts ( already ordered )

Attached are all the pictures from the entire build.

Thanks
Z

Anyone have any questions or want me to give you an opionon on the parts that I have, I am more than happy to share some info!

Damn sorry to see what happened and your bad experience with HEXON! Seems like they sent you the f**ked up batch of the RR600 before Wayne left and robbed all the people's hard earned money on the N54 community.

The turbine wheel on the RR600 you had dosen't look right, the machining looks like it's tappered and a smaller wheel from the one I have, plus the compressor wheel doesn't have a bullet nut on it. I'm guessing cheap poor balancing that caused it to fail.

Glad that Pure is here to help out and you upgraded to something a lot better! Hope you enjoy the new turbos and keep us posted and see what these bad boys can do and how much WHP it can put down.

Yea man. Car has been down for a while. It's nice to have it back and running. Currently tuning on pump just to see how the car likes it and what power these Pures make on pump only. Then will switch to E40-E60 and then eventually Full e85. Will be dyno-ing it along the way just to see how much power they make.

Those PR inlets look good. Pure turbos are sexy too. How's the vrsf 7" compare to the AD ic? Was the 7" not enough for your set up?

Well it's fall here in Chicagoland. So it's about 60-65 degrees today. I did a log today and IATs according to MHD, started at 85, then went down to 78, then back up to 81 when letting off. So it works awesome. But it is a little tough to compare it to VRSF due to the colder weather. If it was still 80+ out I could give you a better answer in comparison between the 2 ICs. I just upgraded because a friend Give_Em_The_DD suggested to when upgrading to the PUREs.

UPDATE:

Car runs solid so far! Im on pump gas and it feels WAY faster than stock turbos. Sorry I couldn't update earlier, school and work got in the way. Put about 3-4k on the turbos. Gonna do some maintenance soon and hopefully mess with e85 in the spring time.

Nice write-up! I have a similar setup.
How did the secondary cats look? Did you place them back or is the car full catless now?

I put them back on. When it was full catless it was setting off alarms at school lol. And was very raspy. Cops were always following me. I didn't like it at all. Lol

5 month update:

Car feels good on pump gas. Weather is starting to get better in the Chicagoland area so will be tuning on e85 mix soon .

Did an oil change with Motul 3V 5W-40 and Mann filter. I recommend Mann filter per BMW Master tech, aftermarket oil filters can cause leaks because O-rings from aftermarket one's are not as good quality as Mann/OEM Bmw.

Car was due for brakes so knocked that out of the way. Thanks to R1 concepts for the great rotors and StopTech for the awesome pads and SS lines

I got the slotted only rotors from R1 concepts and the StopTech Pads and SS Lines.
Fitment was like a glove for everything. Also flushed out the brake fluid and put some Tilton TSR-1 fluid in there.

Hoping to take the car to an AutoX course soon. Will update once I dyno on pump and then switch to E85 mix and then full E85.
