Square setup E90 335 max tire size on 18x8.5

I keep going back and forth and changing my mind about whether to go with 17x8.5 wheels (Kosei) on 245-40-17 all around, or to spend a little more
and go with 18x8.5 wheels (I like the SSR's) .. Not sure what tire size would fit all around on stock suspension, no camber, and no spacers
I know 235-40-18 would work, but would any bigger size also work?
Maybe 245-35-18 all around?

245/40/18 will work, possibly 255/35/18 which has a smaller diameter ( 25.03 vs 25.7) but more width. 265/35/18 rubs some up front from reports.

Allows for maximum contact patch and will less likely roll on the tire shoulder during cornering. In general, wider is better in Autocross.

255/35/18 if you are looking for more rubber (width). I plan to do that with my 330i. My answer would depend on what type of rubber I was looking for and the sizes available in that rubber.

they do fit...I test fitted 18x9 +35 with 265/35/18 for the front and surprisingly no rub even on full turn, might rub over bumps though. I'll do 255/35/18 all around when I get my next track set up.

+1. 255/35/18 fit fine up front.

I run 265/35/18 18x9 ET25 up front with lots of negative camber using a camber plate for the autocross...otherwise 255/35/18 with "stock-like" camber settings work without any issues.

Staggered with bigger tires in back is good for drag racing if you have a rear wheel drive or for the looks.

Driving on a track, we need more width up front to counter-act the understeer present, and also reducing the rear width helps that too.

I have an Xi which stock has even more understeer than the rear wheel cars (can't get power oversteer as you drive the front wheels too)

Those are all true, unless you have a coil-over set-up with adjustable sway bars and can dial in the suspension the way you want it to handle. I'm running staggered for my track set-up and the car is completely neutral because that's the way I set it up. I can dial in over steer if I choose also with my adjustments. An LSD would help with rotation on my car as well

That being said: I'm running 245/35 up front with NO rubbing issues at all. My car is pretty low also. I would think you could run either a 35 or 40 series with a 245 section width. You could also run a 255/35 all around. I don't think you'll have an issue with rubbing up front as I know several people running that tire without issues.

I would go with 245-40-18 myself, but 35 would work also.

Someone I know went with set-up and really likes to way the car feels on the track now btw! Think this is what you are looking for!

245/40 is also cheaper tire wise.. The DUnlop Star Specs come in that size but not in the 245/35.. Good tire for $182 = good deal

The Dunlop Star Specs are a great tire, they also run fairly wide for the size. I'd consider their 245/40/18 tires as big as some manufacturer's 255 tires.

For maximum grip, 255/35/18 would work all around. Just be sure to get the proper offset wheels.

What is the proper offset?

I can look here : http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp
And I can see what the differences are between offsets/sizes, but what I'm looking for is a set of limits. I.E. you can go X mm more in or Y mm more out, before you have any problems.
