Chipping the N54 engine (335i turbo) for beaucoup ponies

lol yup I know this is putting the cart ahead of the horse but for the first time, us owners of 3ers will have a huge tuning potential with the turbocharged engine.

As a Volvo guy (owned 5, still have one) extra horsepower is easy and relatively cheap. Owners of the S60R which has 300HP stock can get it up to 340 with just a chip. Add a downpipe and exhaust and the numbers are even better. Ditto the Suby and Mits Evo guys.

Seems to me that 350HP should be easily attainable once the ECU is reverse engineered and tweaked. Once this engine starts to go in the sedan and the 5er and possibly 1, 6 and 7 series in Europe, I'm sure someone will have a product to market.

Anyone care to comment? A 350HP E90 would rock.

As I said in another tuning thread

On the E90 the ECU is included in the parts that can be programmed by a Progman (CIP ) update.

So you may find you send the car in for a service, and it comes back with the ECU reset to standard

looking back on this short thread, its kind of funny how time changes things. 350hp...try 400hp (look in post #1)

Kinda confused as to your post...

Dinan already has an ECU re-flash that does exactly this. Or are you asking for someone to provide you with more information regarding this..?

Either way, you erroneously suggested that the ECU can be reverse engineered or cracked. It cannot! BMW fell prey to backyard tuners muck'n about in their sophisticated engines a few years back. Their ECU's are now highly encrypted.

Certain well established "tuners" have licensed that encryption from BMW for aftermarket tunes.. others have resulted to using a piggyback that doesnt actual "tune" anything, but confuses and fools the ECU into providing solid gains in HP/TQ.
