Mud Flap?

Anyone know what part this is? I was putting my snow tires on last weekend and noticed I only have this part on one side. Is it supposed to be on both sides? Does anyone know the part number?

Go to RealOEM.com and find it there. It's a bout a $5 part. Make sure you order the three plastic rivits that attach it to the belly pan.

So any idea what the part number / name of the 'mud flap' on the right side of the picture, the one just in front of the rear wheel is called? Mine fell off on one side.

Here's what it says on it:
7 166 650 02
15 6772 10
Germany
IN > PP-T20
OUT > TE S
Weidmann-Pastics
50492-2

I tried all these numbers on RealOEM but it didn't find anything.

And any idea what these are for, function-wise?

I just trimmed / cut mine off with shears. It gives a cleaner look when you're looking at the car from the side.

so they aren't very functional? I think they look ugly and would love to get rid of them, but I thought they were doing something useful...

the ones right in front of the wheels are mud flaps, but the one pictures is right in front of the gas tank. Im not sure i would cut it off, regardless of how ineffective it might be for protecting the tank.

I removed them a couple of weeks ago. No problems yet.

I cut off most of the four that you can easily reach. I haven't done the really long ones yet but I probably will soon.

I too ripped one of these off driving over a piece of wood in the driveway. Is it a mud flap? splash guard? what is it? And what is the real BMW part number to replace it with? The one above does not come up anywhere except this forum but it is what you find on the plastic part itself.

It is an aero lip used to direct air around the rear suspension and provide smoother air flow under the vehicle for better fuel economy. You can't even really see them so I have no idea why you would want to cut them off. I would just replace the part and call it a day.

Engineers put these parts on their designs for a reason.
