Manual or automatic

Hello there,

What would be the better 335i if you want to do some tuning afterwards...... automatic or manual ????????. Most cars can handle more power on a manual than on a automatic....... how are things on the 335 ??????

Own a manual 325 now but have seen a nice 335 automatic

All info is welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Should I get a 335xi or 335i?

I'm also thinking of actually getting another 328. Which is better 328 or 335?

(this is the wrong section btw)

You get alot of snow in your area? If so, get Xi. And about MT and AT, I'd choose MT, just a personal preference of mine. I feel I get to be more involved when driving a MT as oppose to a AT.

I always see people going 6AT wishing they had a manual, never really 6MT to 6AT.

I own a 6AT and am LOVING it! Manual would have been fun, but I never really liked the whole idea of rowing gears in traffic...annoying, but it becomes innate for some I guess...not to mention my parents drive my car from time to time... -_- wouldn't want them messing up the clutch

I was being sarcastic, just taking canucklions post a bit further. I don't actually want to start a xi vs i war or 328 vs 335 war.

With the sub 3000 rpm lag thanks to 29.2 shifting has become even more important in these cars.

dont let people fool you and say "AT" is faster.. AT is faster than an MT in the hands of an inexperienced driver... even BMW rates 0-60 times .1-.3 faster with MT...

now when the dual clutch auto comes for 09... that will be king

+1..but in the end it comes down to personal preference. I myself have more fun with a MT, regardless of what car and how fast its AT can shift, be it an M6 or the new M3...then again a lot of preferences change with age

I am a hardcore MT guy, when I was learning to dirve manual is what I learned on. Every car I ever had was a MT except for the 335i. I test drove the step and fell in love with it. The only other AT car i've ever had if you can even call it an auto is a smg m3, and I loved how fast that thing shifted.

^ i agree... SMG over MT! However, I'd still take a 6mt over a step with paddles any day of the week (even though I curse it during rare apperances of rush hour traffic here in Madison).

One of the main reasons I got my car was because of the 6MT. It's not a 335, but it has an extra zip compatred to the AT 328's I drove. The tranny is so smooth to shift too. It is an overall joy of a setup bro.

I got a MT in my car because I hadn't owned one in years and thought it would be a fun and nice change, and I was right - I'm really enjoying it. That said, the new automatics with paddle shifters are excellent now and can be allot of fun as well. I guess it comes down to which one you think you'll get more enjoyment out of for the duration that you own the car. Either choice is good though. Oh, and if you do get the MT, the CDV mod is a must.

Thanks people, tuesday is testday so I will feel the difference.
I however found one tuner who tunes both the MT & AT to 360 HP however the AT has 480 NM and the MT 520............. guess the AT is not as strong as the MT and he therefor limits the torque on the AT.

I will give him a call tomorrow to ask him why.
