Hi! Want to swap engine in my 325i E90 -05 and im not interested to hear buy a new car bla bla bla. Any one who have some tips to give me what sort of motor that fits best? In germany they swap motor from E60 M5 for example.
I want a big motor in the small body. Cheers, |

If you want to put the v10 from the M5/6 that will cost you ALOT more.

yeah, for sure buy the n54 engine and upgrade the turbos. this engine will be extremely powerful, balanced, efficient, and the most economical choice. you could prob. get an e46 m3 engine and supercharge it as-well.

E90 335 engine would be the easiest.
V10 can be done for sure, but a used drivetrain alone with cost about $18K, plus all the installation costs - you'd probably be looking at $30K for that option by the time you're finished. AC Schnitzer did it as well on an E92.

For legal reasons and registering the car with the new motor, the engine has to be of the same year or newer. You can't put in an older motor and call it a day. I'm not sure how it is in other states, but in CA that's how it is.
I was planning to do a m5 swap and even sourced the motor with tranny and ecu, but after researching it and the labor that's involved, it was just too much in the end to spend out of pocket.

i think what u guys are considering is very different esp when car tax is 100+%. Swapping motors are much cheaper than buying a new car in some cases.

The other part i wanted to figure out is teh key fobs and how that works with the ecu and the locks & ignition of the car. That needs to be figured out as well. Not to mention if you bring the car in for service or warranty, they're gonna see the key fob as a m5 or 3 series. LOL imagine the confusion.

yea probably cheaper to buy an m3, but some people like to mod to be relatively unique and stand apart from the crowd.

fyi, OP is from sweden, so OP may not have any issues with running a motor older than the car

size-wise i'm sure the e60 m5 engine would fit in there as all the other tuning companies have done but it might be more than just a simple swap with chassis mods necessary..i personally would go for the e90 m3 or the n54 engine..would be more directly swappable and involves less money..just imo..

Screw it dude just put in the W16 engine thats in the Bugatti Veyron. It has 16 cylinders in 4 banks of 4 cylinders, or the equivalent of two narrow-angle V8 engines mated in a "W" configuration. Each cylinder has 4 valves equaling a total of 64! And it has 4 TURBOS! That would be ill.
Or just buy a new car. |
