I like to share the DIY step-by-step photos that I took when I installed my spoiler the other day. It has all important visual information and also lessons I learned that I wrote in the photos comment block.

I like to thank Jason from Tischer BMW MD who provided me the complementary Beta-link adhesive and a great deal. I almost walk off the dealership with just the spoiler package, thinking thats all i needed.

for those folks who heard about edges working its way off, the key is
1. putting alot of betalink glue at left/right corner edges
2. taping it after for cure
3. homecdepot clamp them too
4. a 6 hrs cure time at weather temp of 60-90F

notes from jwarcd :
- The spoiler I got did not fit the curve of the trunk exactly and had to be slightly bent when installing to match the trunk. Not a big deal, but makes is a little harder to install.
- wear laytex gloves, the adhesive is pretty messy.
- clean the trunk edge and the back of the spoiler really well with the BetaClean solvent that came with the 3M BetaLink adhesive.
- lightly sand the back of the spoiler to give the adhesive something to grab onto.
- Now it's time to install the spoiler. BTW, don't peel off the protective backing on the tape on the spoiler until after you have installed it. (Once it touches the car it's on for good!) How the heck do I do that you are thinking? :-) Before you install it peel off about 1" of the tape backing and bend it back so that it sticks out towards the front of the car.
- Now, Put the 3M adhesive on the spoiler. Place the spoiler on the car and while you are pressing on the spoiler pull the tape backing towards the front of the car.
- Use the blue painters masking tap to hold the spoiler in place while the 3M BetaLink adhesive dries. The blue tape is easier to remove, and doesn't leave much residue behind. I also used small spring claps to hold the ends of the spoiler tightly to the trunk since it wanted to spring up a little.
- Clean up the the extra adhesive with the 3M BetaClean cleaner that came with the adhesive.
- I missed a little adhesive that was under the masking tape and was able to remove it the next day with a little BetaClean and the platic tool that came with the adhesive. You just have to be patient and carefully scrape it.
- BTW the adhesive doesn't come with the spoiler, it was about $15 at the dealer.

My spoiler should be coming in on Tuesday this week. Ill have to arrange for it to be painted while I am away on vacation...

Ive got more packing tape on my car now than Ive ever seen used... Heck, it even looks good with the tape on

After completing the install I had a few issues with the removal of some of the betalink and the glue from the duct tape I used. I used the betalink solvent and used a cheap microfiber towel and ended up with a bunch of small swirl marks and scratches on the trunk and spoiler.

I was easily able to remove them using Zaino Z-PC, but would highly suggest two things to others who will be performing this install:

1) Use blue painters tape instead of duct tape as it will leave almost no glue residue.
2) When cleaning up any extra betalink that gets on the car, make sure you use the same high quality towels you'd use in the washing and waxing process.

I should have known better in reference to issue 2, but since I didn't, I thought I'd share my experience so others won't make the same mistake.

I find using a bag cotton balls soak with betalink link cleaning solvents (comes with betalink kit) works best cleaning up excess Betalink glue

I found that cotton balls were taking a long time to get some of the larger excess globs of betalink off, that's why I went to a betalink solvent soaked rag. It would have been fine if I'd used a good quality towel, but that was my mistake. You're right in that with enough patience, the cotton balls would have been fine.

Ive covered the area near the Spoiler with tape, when I temporarily intalled the spoiler and mark it.

Marking it and covering exposed area gives a very good indication of where it should be once you install it with the glue later.

Covering the exposed area near the spoiler, will save you time cleaning up later by just pulling the tape with excess glue.

Ive been asked time after time how my spoiler install has been holding up with betalink, some even asked photos.

Well, I figure I post it here for everyone to see thats its doing well after 2yrs and in all climate condition. The e90 is not garage and in a four season State.

btw I have no experience removing installed spoiler, but I believe Longtran had experience removing them. PM him for more info.

Great DIY. I just installed my spoiler last night. I have a small amount of the adhesive to remove that squished out, but other than that it looks great.

what about for us cf guys? I'm a bit confused because i think the clamp would crack the cf.

I agree. I just received my CF spoiler, but I'm worried about this as well.

i got a oem cf rep. it only came with double sided tapes. will it work?

the ones Ive used are not actually heavy clamps but alligator clips guys. CF are heavy duty, why would it crack?

I have the same question - two rows of double sided tape have been applied at the factory and the spoiler has not came with any glue.

1. Will the two rows of double sided tape be enough

2. If I do have to use glue where do I put it since there is only a small area between the two rows of tape to put the glue.
