For people in GVA Do we really need winter tires for our winter.

I drove in the snow last year on my summer when i had the E92 it was not the most pleasant experience. I mean i did not get stuck or anything but it was scary!! Maybe its because I drove in Richmond and the mayor here decide to not clean the snow until it all becomes ice. So wats your guys' opinion on this. I am really concerned now cause i kinda need to drive to SFU now.

I don't think it's really necessary. The days that I couldn't get around with my E39 on summer tires, I just stayed home. That being said, I've always had two sets of wheels, so I always run separate summer and winter tires. If anything, it will make your tires last longer. Plus, you get the added benefit of piece of mind when you run snows in winter.

I heard this coming snowfall is going to be really bad. May I remind you guys that our cars don't have LSD, so it's like a one-wheel drive car on snow.

Please get a nice set of winter tires, because no matter how you look at it, getting new winter shoes is way cheaper than getting into an accident. Period.

It is better to have it... but if you are just doing some city driving... All season tire will be ok with low speed...

I bought a set of Dunlop M3s 2 yrs ago. I was heading towards the south direction towards Metrotown from BCIT. I remember I was afraid I wasn't going to make it to the top of Willingdon Ave. Luckily, the light turned green, but a bus was still turning left into Willingdon from Moscrop. So, I slowed down just enough to swerve bit to the left to avoid the bus, but was still able to keep going uphill.

The road was not cleared as well during that time. I was really hoping not to roll backwards.

When snow comes again, I am going to try again this year to see if I do roll backwards though when no one is around, just to test how well the M3 with winter tires can handle that hill or even Boundary Road. If I do roll backwards, I can still return home, Richmond.

This year, I really want to explore more about the M3 in the winter time when it's safe.

By all means, please buy a snow set. Don't want to see a Bimmer or any car going into a ditch. I remember my rear tires just touched where there was a small patch of ice, 10 in x 10 in, and I started to spin out. I had to come down and kick the ice away. That was when I realized I needed winter tires.

If you have the summer tires with the sport package then you really should be getting winter tires.

Although we don't tend to get alot of snow, winter tires work alot better at lower temperatures (less than 7C) on bare/wet pavement.

Also keep in mind that if you get into an accident with summer tires mounted your insurance company may not cover you.
