dude if you didnt plan this out already, expect to pay well into the 2 thousands. flight alone will be almost a G pp, plus hotel, food, etc. IMO not worth it unless you planned this MONTHS in advance. nice thought tho.

I think it's too late to book this trip. You'd be better off booking it for next year now. This way your girl will be 21 and you can really get out and enjoy NYC.

I tried the Times Square last new years eve, went there 1:30 and still did not get a good spot when they started fencing the viewing areas. So if you go, make sure you get into the fenced areas, they leave a lot of empty space around the fences but you can only be within the fences. And even when it looks like that there aren't that many people there, when they actually start to close the area and only let a fraction of the people stay, you might end up much further from the dropping ball than you expected. Or at least I did

I left Times Square 8 pm, it was just way too boring and cold... Had more fun with my friends, had a couple of drinks at our hotel and went to Central Park to see fireworks!

I love New York City, so have fun there, I bet you will love it!!!!

This year I am spending my new years in Oklahoma City. Something new every time

I'm here looking to get some advice, comments, and suggestions.
My girlfriend's completely in love with the thought of New York in the winter.
She's always wanted to go and always wanted to see the city and snow.
From what I understand from television, New York/TimeSquare is the place to be on New Years Eve
I was thinking, what would possibly be a better christmas gift than a trip to New York for a few days around New Years!
She's been asking me to take her to Big Bear, which is a local ski resort here in southern cali, for some time now.
This week we just had a huge storm(for SoCal standards) and i'm sure that will be a good time but New York would be on a completely different level.
She's been pretty good to me so i'd really like to do something in return.

So the plan is, sometime betweem 12/28 - 1/4 I want to stay somewhere in New York close enough to the action of TimeSquare, but doesn't have to be too close that we can't get away from it.
I haven't been in quite some time and when I was there it was more for work than for travel pleasure.
Other than TimeSquare on New Years, what else is there to do and see.
I have an exgirlfriend that lives there and from what she tells me you can pretty much get around anywhere and everywhere by taxi and/or subway.
I don't really want to rent a car and have to deal with traffic unless its completely necessary.
So please, lets hear your suggestions:
for the
lol...nyc and snow and christmas....enjoy im sure it'll be a dream (*cough* nightmare) for you and your girlfriend.

I live in Manhattan and have a car. Take my workd for it a car will be useless in Manhattan. Mine stays garaged all week and only is used to leave the city on weekends. Private car is about the worst way to get around Manhattan.

Manhattan is nice this time of year. LOts of seasonal stuff. You can check out the tree at Rock Center. The window displays on 5th Ave. South Street Seaport, the Station at CitiCorp Center (a seasonal Model Railroad display) plust the usual attractions.
