Great, I thought on seeing the cover of the June issue of C&D, a test of the diesel Jetta. But what a disappointment: how can they expect Americans to warm to diesel engines when they install the engines we had in Europe 6 or 7 years ago? The 1.9 litre 100hp TDi uses out-of-date technology and has barely enough power to move such a big car. Jettas over here get new-generation 2.0 litre 140hp engines and this will be uprated to 170hp by the end of the summer

it has to do with emissions as the US has different standards. The current TDI may not even be here for 07 as it wont pass the emission standards in 07.

The ultra low sulphur diesel fuel will be available in NA in late 2006.

Mercedes is preparing to bring their 320 CDI v6 engine over in the ML, GL, E, and R Classes.

Any word from BMW yet? I would love a 330d Touring.

For the most part Americans always get shortchanged on power, and it has nothing to do with it being a deisel..
