buy a bmw with an accident on carfax??
i found this car online and it has everything I want options wise, the price is a decent price, but it says it was in an accident in 2007. Is it a bad idea to buy a car which the car fax has an accident reported on it? The carfax will be shown for any car that sustains a damage of above $500 in the officers opinion.
I really like the car but what do you think about the situation? The cars out of state and I would go see it sometime soon. Obviously I can't take it to my mechanic because its a few hours away and I can't trust the dealer b/c they'll say anything to sell a car. According to the dealer it was minor damage and you can't tell any difference in the paint or anything wrong with the car once put on a lift. And that any accident that the cops come to will show up on carfax. There is also no listing of frame damage on carfax just what i listed below. The official carfax is that "It hit another motor vehicle, left side primarily damaged" |

How good is the deal? If it's not a great deal, I wouldn't bother. Once a car is in an accident, it never drives the same (whether the problems show up sooner or later) and the resale value isn't so hot.

i say dont take it... just spend the extra 5k or whatever and have good peace of mind that your car hasnt been in an accident... because if it appears on carfax, its usually pretty serious. i have had to replace my front bumper before from a minor accident in the car park. the car was still drivable so i just drove to the dealer the next day and park it there to wait for the new bumper to be painted and installed... with a minor accident like that, nothing even appeared in my car's report. so the fact that something appears in a carfax report prob means that the damage is significantly more serious.

i think it was on carfax b/c it was in an accident that the cops had to come. the dealer doesn't report to carfax, only police. i'm have a bmw tech look at it and see what he thinks. if it feels bad im out, but then again i have the warranty til a year and then im gettin the extended warranty til 90k so..... aren't i covered?
