Brake Dust E46 vs. E90

My new car should be here in about 15 days or so, and I was wondering does the E90 have the same massive breakdust issue that the E46's have?

I clean the wheels pretty religously on the E46 ZHP because of the huge amount of breakdust that it accumulates, man I a hoping that they are using different breakpads on the E90.

I have driven 185000 km with my e46 so far (it's almost 7 years old and was bought new). There is always some breakdust on the wheels after breaking. IMO that hasn't got anything to do with the BMW e46. Moreover, I only clean the wheels once every 4 weeks or it sometimes takes 8 weeks. I only clean the wheels with water and sometimes a little bit of wash & shine or a little bit of Turtle Wax. And I must say, they still look like new wheels. So your problem doesn't sound familiar to me!

This is my first BMW, but I've always known that Bimmers create boatloads of brake dust.
I have to clean mine every day to keep them looking nice.

Can't compare to the E46 but I can tell you that after cleaning them it does not take Very long for them to get dirty again. I must clean mine once per week at a minimum. It is driving me crazy.

my first BMW also..there is massive brakedust on the E90. The same day after washing my car/wheels..i will notice more break dust...and the worst part is its sprays and leaves dark marks on the fenders.

Every try to use creamic pads? They cut down on dust significantly.

here is the solution...

"rotex gold" kevlar dust-free pads... no squealing or noise at all...

part numbers: D394 (front) $75.00 / D683 (rear) $70.00

~ same part number as e46 M3.

i purchased them thru: brakeworld.com

ditto.

Clean 'em, wait a week, wash, rinse, repeat...

the e90 has less brake dust than an e46. my e46 was terrible on brake dust, especially on the front.

I don't know.. I would say my E90 is pretty much the same as my old E46, but since I have an XI there is a little more front weight making for a little more front dust.

If you want to "fix" the problem without changing pads, search the detailing forum here. There are a couple of things that you can apply to the wheels (sealants and waxes) that reduce the dust sticking and make the wheels easier to clean... Works for me.

I think the e90 generates more than my previous e46 - but I'm basing it purely on memory.

My E90 has less brake dust than my E46. That was a pleasant suprise. It's not completely gone, but better than before.
