Question AUX-in not working

I have an ipod shuffle and purchased the audio cable from Radio Shack to connect it to the AUX input in the armrest. For some reason this connection isn't working.

I made sure volume was up (ipod, stero, and aux-setup)
I made sure the cable was good
I made sure I was on AUX mode in the car

Still nothing. At this point I think I may have to take the car into the dealer and have them sort it out (read: hassle). I would try another mp3 player or audio source but I don't have one to try at this time.

Any other suggestions besides getting this looked at by the dealer?

I doubt it is because of your mp3 player. I would take it to the dealer.

Someone else posted on here that a Radio Shack cable did not work. It is possible that the plug does not go in far enough.

You can take any transistor radio and plug the same Radio Shack cable into the radio and then into the AUX INPUT and if it still won't play, then it's either the car or the plug.

Then, I'd try a new plug. That's a hell of a lot easier than a trip to the dealer.

Good luck.

the shuffle can be hard to tell when it's starting to play,

verify that it's actually playing by having headphones around to test

sounds like you should be on track though... the 3 different volumes throws lots of people off and you've got that nailed already

I have the radio shack cable and it works.
Test the cable and make sure it works (use it to plug the shuffle to a home stereo, etc)
Test the shuffle with headphones.

Other than that, test another device to see if it works.

good luck.

i agree that it's not likely to be the cable or the player. if you have everything set up right, it should play no matter what you plug into it.

i would continue troubleshooting by attaching another music device first (a CD player?) and see if that works. if it doesn't, take it to the dealer. if it does, you're doing something wrong with your iPod.

Alright, when I got home last night I decided to run some more tests to make sure it was indeed the car before I took in for service. I downloaded the latest iPod software and did a full iPod restoration (wipes out data and sets factory defaults, etc). That did the trick. Works like a charm now!

Thanks to everyone who responded with advice!
