How easy is this going to be to install?

Eric,
I stopped by your place over the xmas holidays and saw the quality of work. I drive an E93 and wanted to know how hard this was going to be to install? Is there any cutting required?

Just curious.

Well you can but it requires a great deal of cutting. With most people keeping the stock turbo this core is MORE than enough and even with a larger turbo upgrade this will be good up to 650hp. It's a really thick core so going taller and thinner would essentially be the close to the same core so long as the core volume matches up.

If we really start releasing a ton of HP in this car an it needs a bigger core we will offer one but as with every car we make parts for we don't want to overdo it and sell a part that not only you don't need but a part that will require excessive installation.

This will require very very mild trimming of the plastic shroud that we are going to include a template for. Other than that this will be a BREEZE to install!

Of course. I know my car will be sporting the AMS logo on the FMIC!

^so to confirm, this fmic will require cutting or not cutting for e90/e92 oem bumper?

it will require a small trim of the backside of the front bumper cover (an inch at most) as the core is a bid deeper than the stock one. Nothing crazy. We could of made a smaller OEM sized unit but it really would only support the stock twins and nothing past that.

I understand 'backside' as : 'rear-most portion of the bumper. The trailing edge of the bumper plastic at bottom of the car'.

Does that imply that the FMIC will hang down low enough to 'push down' on the bottom bumper plastic, and that's why you need to trim it? Hence making the FMIC extend down below the bottom of the bumper? FMIC would be strike-prone (road clutter, snags, etc)?

Agreeed. I can't wait to see dynos. I'm debating between this and the Helix FMIC, as I'm also very impressed by their design, epsecially after seeing pressure drop and flow data.

Don't forget the AT folks! ATs require a slightly different setup. Code3 had to offer an additional kit to make their intercooler work with the ATs.

Any data based on the CAD or material? Pressure drop, flow, volume, mass, specific. Heat? Aprox efficiency at 16psi/6000-6500?

If you could Pshop a pic of the backside of the bumper and anticipated cuts that would be great.

OT, but I noticed that the upcoming BMW Perf tune reportedly includes mods to the IC -- indicating the importance of the IC for reliability and performance.

I think the trimming would be pretty similar to what is required with the Code3. The dimensions of the Code3 and AMS are similar (both 6" tall and 6" deep. There is a DIY posted on the Code3 site. Trimming is minor for 335i and much more extensive for 135i for the Code3.
