I can attest to the BMW performance Exhaust. Here are your benefits over the others:

pros:
-full catback
-oem fitment and finish
-full vehicle warranty if installed at the time of signing, otherwise 2yrs/unlim miles
-minimal drone if any. BMW nailed it here. Almost sounds the same from the inside, till some gassing
-Exterior sound is +1. A nice deepr throaty tone. Always crisp and 0 rasp.
-No welding required

cons:
-Some can argue price. What I say is this... It is a fair price with its competition
-Small increase in power

Here is my take at some of it's competitors. The IKON has a pretty big hit here on the forums. It has a nice aggressive tone with no drone. Only thing is that it is a muffler only. The eisenmann is a quality piece, but that is just over 1k and it too is also only a muffler. Some here have experienced droning inside the cabin. There is also the Italian exhaust, Supersprint, but be prepared to pay 2k for the exhaust.

I am also in the market for an exhaust. I have seen many video clips on youtube. The top 4 that i am interested in are:

1. Remus sport exhaust - looks close to stock and is on the quiet side.
Although it has a valve you can adjust for loudness. Price = $652.95

2.Rogue Engineering Ikon - Sounds nice...not to quiet and not too loud. It's probably the least favorite as far as looks. Also some say the tips discolor after a while. Price = $599

3. BMW performance exhaust - Now this is a full catback system. I still have mixed feelings about the sound. It is probably the loudest of these four listed. The video clip by Nevets really sells the exhaust. I'm torn between this one and the Ikon. Price = an arm and a leg ( list price is around $1,449.17)

4.Eisenmann exhaust - This one sounds good but it seems to sound a lot better with the SR piping. This one is also on the expensive side and has about three different systems. Price = starting at $1216.00 and $800 for the SR piping.

So these are some of the popular exhaust I have read about on this site and researched. These prices are from **********s.com. They have some descent prices. The BMW performance price is from the BMW website although I have heard of a place called Tisher BMW that is or was selling it for $1,004.00

It is basically the mid pipe that mates with the muffler section.

This is the Eisenmann site and this link shows the different variations for the E90 exhaust systems. At the bottom is the S/R pipes. It doesn't say anything about them. They are just the catback piping. This with the muffler sounds really nice.

Here is a link to the Eisenmann exhaust with SR pipes.

**********s has other brands of mid pipes. I didn't see and Eisenmann SR pipes but looks Supersprint has some. Also some people mix and match other mufflers with mid pipes. I have heard an Ikon muffler with Eisenmann SR pipes. It sounds cool.

I had the Ikon First, Loved it but wanted louder, then went to the Eisenmann Race which I also like very much but feel that I wanted to go with a full Catback system so I think I am going to be getting the Riss Racing setup that they will be coming out with here shortly

I've owned both of the following:

Eisenmann race 2x70 (did not have the sr pipe) - great quality and nice deep sound from the exterior or interior when you are on the gas. Serious drone on the interior when cruising. This is a muffler only and when I purchased mine 3 years back it was about $1K. I had this on my car for about 2.5 years before I swapped to the BMW system. The drone was too much for me.

BMW Performance exhaust - very good quality full cat back system. ZERO drone and very quiet inside at cruise. When accelerating the sound with windows closed is absolutely wicked (race car like) but again fairly quiet. Off throttle burbling is very nice. I've had this system in place for about 3 months and I have no qualms about recommending this system. It's full factory backed and designed and is relatively cheap ($1k for the full cat back) compared to an Eisenmann equivalent which would be the muffler plus the SR pipe.

You're right the BMW performance exhaust sounds great but I'm still a little concerned about attracting cops with the loudness. Does it make alarms go off? I had issues with my riced out civic back in the days and a few years ago with my Evo II on my late IS300. I don't drive fast (well sometimes) and I don't rev unless someone cuts me off. There doesn't seem to be any drone like you said on the BMW setup. It seems I am leaning more toward the BMW performance exhaust.v

Let me clarify. The tone is race car like. The loudness is not. It is not very loud at all. Subjectively I felt the Eisenmann muffler-only was louder when on and off throttle than the BMW Perf System. Don't worry at all about it being too loud. If it was I'd already have it off the car.

Thanks mdemange. Seems like I will get the BMW performance exhaust.

Can anyone comment on the RE Ikon? I listened to a YouTube clip and it sounded awesome. I want a throaty sound, but not loud, and no drone.

I know the BMW perf exhaust is what I probably need, but it's just a little pricey

Did you check out the video by wuufer001?

I have heard if you get rid of the two resonators you will get drone at cruising speeds. I like the way it sounds. I am also thinking of the BMW performance exhaust which sounds total balls. I was worried about loudness because I am tired of getting modified exhaust tickets. On my 03 IS300 I only got one ticket for that after five years of driving it with a Evo II exhaust. That set up was about as the Ikon. There is a place that is selling the BMW exhaust for a little of 1K. The website still shows this low price.

IKON has been good to me so far.
Nice tone, not overbearing.
But as some earlier discussions have mentioned, the way it's designed, it shows a little bottom left.

But, high temp black paint camo's it enough to be unnoticeable.
Highly recommended - price, quality, & performance (which is small).
