Bavarian Technic Diagnostic Tool

Thoughts? To me it looks like a glorified OBDII reader for MSD80 ECUs, although you can delete adaptation values. Maybe it can be "tuned" to adjust the ECU?

Diagnostic Tool for BMW and MINI

Early Release

With the release of the Bavarian Technic Diagnostic Tool for BMW, we begin the next phase of this long-term project. Today, we offer a product that includes comprehensive coverage and a long list of features with a focus on late-model cars. Development, however, is not yet complete Read more.

What cars does it work on?

  • 2005-2008 BMW 1 Series
  • 1996-2009 BMW 3 Series
  • 1996-2008 BMW 5 Series
  • 2003-2008 BMW 6 Series
  • 1994-2008 BMW 7 Series
  • 2004-2008 BMW X3
  • 1999-2006 BMW X5
  • 2008-2009 BMW X6
  • 1996-2002 BMW Z3
  • 2002-2003 BMW Z4
  • 2000-2003 BMW Z8
  • All BMW M models
  • Mini Cooper R50 & R56
  • Looking for Porsche? Please see Durametric

What does it do?

The tool accesses the electronic control units in your car to:
What systems does it work on?

  • Engine
  • Airbag
  • ABS
  • Transmission
*Not all features are supported on all modules or vehicles. See our Model/Feature Matrix for specific coverage.

How does it work?

Our product is a hardware and software tool that plugs into your Windows PC's USB port (check system requirements). Once plugged into the car, the tool is capable of communicating with the different system control units in the car.

Can it really help me turn off my airbag light?

Yes! The tool can show you why it is on in the first place so you can correct the problem and turn the light off.

Beta

The Bavarian Technic tool for BMW is not yet available for sale. We are currently undergoing beta testing on our BMW product and expect the first release in January 2009.

How is your product different from the OBD2 products available?

Our product communicates with your car just like the factory tool does and can access all of the systems in the car. OBD2 was created for emissions-related problems and only covers a limited subset of your car's engine.

It is something I will be seriously looking into. I want to know what they mean by the following (emailing now):

Quote:
The professional version also supports Coding and Command console that are not supported with the Enthusiast version
I am fine with the 3 VIN's on the Enthusiast version as I want to use it on my car. But if local members want to donate a few $$ I could opt for the Professional package.

Dang, it looks like what I want/need but they had to remove an important part. I can understand the Coding fucntion not being available in the Enthusiast version. But the Command section is not supplied.

Coding allows you to essentially clone the DME completely.
Command allows you to reset adaptation channels.

Coding would be cool but considering the issues the dealers have with an occasional hang-up, I doubt I would want to touch it. However, I also doubt I would use the Command feature much anyway.

After reading the site, it does appear they support extended data with the ability to read and reset extended codes. In other words, you can clear non-OBDII codes which is what we have been lacking. And $278 is a better price than the anticipated $500 price from AutoEnginuity.

My guess would be yes and no. I doubt the Enthusiast version would. The Professional could if you download the code, make changes to the Hex file and then upload. But that is a daunting task is accurate.

What about changing a Piezo Injector and inputting the required information from the new injector to the DME?

To me it appears they used the E90 nomenclature to assume E9x. There should be no reason why the differences between a Sedan and Coupe should be different.

Could you dupe an ECU?

2007 335i  [0.00]
humm - looks like a "vag com" for this market - VERY exciting...i will be ordering in the next few days.

i'm REALLY curious if it can log data at high rate of speed like my VCDS can on my VW's....no more dicking around with generic OBDII data logging garbage..

add: wow - the interface looks JUST like my Ross Tech VCDS HEX+CAN-USB, i e-mailed them, wonder if I can just buy the software

Nice find... good thing I didn't waste money on a GT1, this is like 10% of the cost, and has constant updates! hopefully it reads everything!
