E90 Halogen to Xenons

Hi Folks,

I have been searching on the forums for Halogen to Xenon conversions. So far I've managed to established that the Xenon Units are not sufficient and basically if I swap them out of my 320d it would cause the Bulb Warning Lights to remain on. Therefore does anyone have a suggestion to workaround this problem. Also as a requirement in Europe I need to fit headlight washers can I use my existing bumpers and drill a hole to create the outlet for the washers. Any help/Advice or Instructions would be greatly appreciate as I'm one of those BMW drivers that had Xenons on my E46 330i Sport and now since I replaced it for a 320d SE I greatly miss them.

Thanks in advance!
Aaron.

Bought the Xenons

Hi Folks,

I've managed to find a BMW dealer in Germany who will sell me the Xenon Lights also included in the deal is the light switch, the headlamp washers as well. They have provided BMW internal instructions for installing these on Halogen fitted cars.

If you need any contacts to purchase these lights send me a message. I will get my friend to install them this weekend and I will update this thread!

Aaron.

The dealer is charging me (US)$1300 for the light switch, xenons lights and the headlamp washers. The kit takes around 5 hours for the xenon lights to be installed and 3 hours for the washers to be installed.

The footwell module does not have to changed on certain models hence the reason i didnt need it. Also they provided the instructions to retrofit the kit.

For any specific requirements just send me a message.
I hope this helps!

Aaron.

Hi,

The footwell module doesn not have to be changed on certain models? How do we know whether our E90 need a new module or not?

Footwell module

Aparantly the dealers can check if your car requires the footwell module using your VIN Chassis Number. They informed me It can be upgraded without hence the reason that wasnt included Aaron.

Okay, so is the implication here that your car only needs the washer, switch, and headlights, and you will not get an error message?

And they found this all out by running your VIN? If so, I'll give you my VIN and have them run that and they can tell me what I need.

Update

To stop the Error message happening a BMW Dealer still needs to update CIP with Xenons.

Does any US members here have any concerns when buying xenon straight from german. German drive on the opposite side of road. So a german AHL will not turn that much to the right which is opposite of US AHL which turns alot more to the right then to the left. Besides the high cost of conversion, I am also concern about getting the german spec light which might not work correctly on US version car. I don't have the technical detail to really understand if it would work correctly. Peace...

good call, txusa03!
Since my car drive side is right side, I would not consider.

That is why I hear ppl on this forum say they got a US spec xenon clear corner. They don't call is US spec and Euro spec for no reason, there is a difference in how they work. I even thought about going to Phillipine for vacation and buy the clear corner xenon there and bring it back from my vacation but then it dawn on me that it was not a very smart thing to do since their version might not work properly. So for everyone who is considering the xenon mod, make certain that you have a clear understanding of what it is that you are buying.

I don't think it is clear (to me at least). In Germany (and i neurope generally) we drive in the right side of the road, since our steering wheels are in the left side of the car. Only in England(and its colonies), Cyprus and Australia I think people drive in the oposite side! So apart from the amber sides of your ligths, I doubt there is any other difference!

MOst of us who have done the conversion have gone Halogen to Xenon so AHL will NOT WORK unless u install a 3k refrofit kit!
So it doesnt matter if there different cause we cant even use the funciton!

Hi Folks,

Just to update you since I've returned from my holidays. I've now learn't that I do require a new Footwell module, the original footwell module caused confusion due to the fact it has the same part number hence the BMW Dealer in Germany said I would'nt require it. However after experiementing with my car the dealer concluded that it is required. So I've ordered this and hopefully it will be installed on Monday first thing then eventually I will get back my car, so I can take some photos and hopefully have no errors coming up on the dashboard.

Regards,
Aaron.
