BMW Performance Division Announces N54 Software Performance Upgrade - BMW 3-Series (E90 E92) Forum

Apparently BMW will be offering performance software for the N54 equiped cars. The HP / TQ increase is moderate but it looks like they will add additional cooling. I have a e92 with the M sport package on order for March production. I just emailed my salesman to see if I can add this.

BMW has just issued a press release during the Geneva show that the BMW Performance division will release a tune for the x35i engine. 326 hp (crank) instead of 306, 450 nm torque (crank; 430 for manual transmissions) instead of the stock 400. Apparently an additional water cooler along with a more powerful fan will be added, in addition to the reprogramming of the ECU. No pricing information released yet. Availability from March 2009.

In context, the ZHP package with + 10 hp was considered a significant improvement.

I was really hoping they would include this in the ZMP.

It wouldn't surprise me if this Perf tune is essentially what I had initially.

The water cooler add on & IC changes may be an excellent mod.

They basically bring the spec of the existing N54 to the "new" N54 found on the new 740i which has 326hp and 450Nm. BUT the "new" revision has the max torque in the 1500-4500 RPM range and not 1300-5000 like the current one. I hope the BMW Performance software will be a little more than this update, I mean they should change the throttle mapping to be more aggressive, etc.

It has been made official: BMW Performance will be offering a performance upgrade for the N54 twin turbo six! The engine software and components that gave the new 740i an increase in horsepower and torque will essentially now be available as a dealer installed option for 135i and 335i models.

The BMW Performance Power Kit consists of both software and hardware components including additional water cooling. The kit will be installed and covered under warranty by BMW. In European terms this gives the engine 20 more horsepower (326 from 306) and 50 more Newton meters (450 from 400). In the US that should figure to somewhere in the 321 hp and 336 ft/lbs neighborhood. The performance increase is noted as .2 of a second from a standstill to .5 seconds faster in the passing range.

Official US information has not been released but we have heard for some months that this was in the works and that we could expect something at dealers in April. We will update you as we hear more so as always stay tuned!

No word on cost yet, but my interest sure is piqued. Discuss!

Interesting news for the owners of 135i and 335i models, BMW will offer a performance upgrade for the N54 twin-turbo engine. The press release was issued for the German market, but we expect similar news for the U.S. market as well.

The N54 engine will receive 20 extra ponies, to a total of 326. BMW performance power kit consists of software and hardware components, so we should expect a high performance exhaust as well as technologies that will help the air circulation. Water cooling is part of the kit as well.

BMW 335i Coupé and BMW 335i Cabrio can combine the BMW performance power kit with the seven sport automatic transmission with double clutch.

A BMW 335 equipped with the Performance Power Kit, will accelerate from 0-62mph in only 5.4 seconds. No pricing information at this point, but be prepared to pay for those extra horsepower.

If the price is cheap, it'll be a bargain for those who don't want to play with their warranty's but still want to play with their cars
