Cracked windshield

Hey guys

I recently bought a 3 series and had it for less than 2 months but I have taken it to the window shop once already. First time I was going around 75 and a huge rock hit my windshield and it cracked it so I got it repaired. Then today, I was going 50 in the rain and a small rock hit my window, my passenger didnt even see the rock, we just heard it and my window cracked AGAIN in a different spot...this is getting kind of ridiculous...do you guys think my windshield is a crappy one from dealer? i mean i just got the car for less than 2 months and it has cracked TWICE...any help guys?

Yeah right do a search.

And OP, it happened to me too. 2 weeks into delivery. And I got the second one while driving it to get a quote on the replacement! BMW OEM glass is really soft, and given how low the car sits, it's perfect level for the rocks to hit it at a high speed. The dealership said it happens all the time to their vehicles and there's not much we can do except replace it. Others on this forum who experience harsher than mild winters get the same problem too.

I did a full replacement of my windshield using OEM glass and then I got myself Clearplex installed on top (it's like a hard 3M clear bra layer for windshields). Thread: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ight=clearplex

So far after two months and 2500 km including a highway trip (and I use the freeways a lot), it's really worth it. There are several areas which should have been pretty nasty rock chips but the Clearplex does a good job of stopping them. I checked all the areas and so far the damage has only been on the Clearplex layer.

In case you're wondering what it looks like after a rock hits it, imagine a rock chip that you bring in to the autoglass shop and they fill it in with epoxy. Looks sort of like that.

Totally worth if it if you can find a place near you that does it.

I got my windshield replaced for 300 bucks
craigslist.org is your friend. I was sceptical until I tried.
Great quality glass used.

Did you mean that dealer replaced it for free?
