Review of M-Force_Design | MFD Performance Scoops

As every car modder knows, this is an addictive thing so I decided that I would try the MFD Performance Scoops because they are such a well priced item. I am running Dual Cone Intakes (DCI) and figured it could not hurt to get more cold ambient air into the engine compartment for many reasons on a turbo car. I made the plunge about a week ago and finally got the chance to install them and here are my thoughts.

Packaging
The package came incredibly well wrapped even with a nice little MFD sticker holding the bubble wrapped package together. They were in perfect condition.

Installation
This is as easy of an installation as you will ever do. Start by popping the hood and looking at the scoop. You will see the factory cold air scoop in the front of the engine bay. Remove the torx T20 screws:

Next, you will see two pops on the side on the factory cold air scoop facing toward the ground. Use a pair of needle nose pliars to remove these. Just simply wedge them up.

Next, twist the plastic pops out.

Finally, remove the factory cold air scoop.

Now it is time to install the MFD Performance Scoops. They drop right into the opening where you just removed the factory cold air scoop from. The fitament is perfect and simple.

Finally, button it back up. This is what it will look like after you install them as looking at the kidney grills.

Performance

The fitment is simply perfect. Really it feels like they are factory and they seal perfectly. I took the car out and drove it for about 30 minutes. It is the dead of winter here, so I don't know how much impact ambient temps are going to have on an already pretty cold engine bay. I suspect there should be more of an impact in the summer to be honest. The bottom line is I bought them to cool my engine bay and ultimately my IATs. I think once the summer comes many will notice a more substantial difference at speed.

Conclusions

The theory is clear... scoops will cool the engine bay and ultimately lower your IATs. That is something that can never hurt and should really help during long high speed pulls. The fitament is perfect and the quality is top notch. For the price, I cannot imagine not picking these up!

Thanks for the kind words guys.

I would not worry about water entering the engine bay because the factory cold air snorkel is open as well. Basically this is just grabbing more air to go into the stock factory snorkel.

I think any slits or holes would make this product useless! Its all about angles of the scoops, if theres hole through it, it sort of defeats the purpose

Water will not get in the engine. I made some home made scoop on my Honda a long time ago that directly points at the filter. It was a 2.5in tube which is way bigger than these scoops and it was shorter than the BMW snorkel. I noticed there were dried water droplets in the bend of the scoops but nothing close to the filter itself.

IMO, I think making slits is just a marketing gimmick to sell more scoops.

I honestly think from a design, these scoops are as good as they get. They fit perfectly and the funnel the air to the factory snorkel quite well. The price is just tremendous too.

With our kind of design, water will not get into the engine.
Once you start making slits and drilled holes on the scoop, it starts to leak air and cause a disturbance, making the scoops less efficient.

Our scoops maybe SIMPLE but be sured they perform amazing.
