"Most of the designs are "hinged", in that they use a heim joint that would allow vertical movement. So this type of bar only has stiffness in the side to side direction. The non-hinged bars like the older UUC, BMW LTW, and Strong Strut have no piviting hinges, they are bolted solid, so they will carry loads vertically as well as horizontally."

I guess for the hard core people that install strut brace that actually track their cars, a hinge brace would not be the best solution for them, but for those people like myself who will never see a track in their lifetime it would suit us with occasional WOT and hard cornering here and there...I would imagine most people do it for asthetics also so either way would suit them...I personally agree with what you guys are pointing out, but for my situation this hinge brace would never be a factor IMO...I love the way it looks

Im picking up the cf cross brace soon.... imo, a good majority of the strut braces out there are hinged anyways.

Just installed m3 brace. It is MUCH better than others as it attaches at three points on the strut. Cheap too... $350

IMHO the M3 style brace is the way to go. Just to name a few benefits...

*Multiple mounting points resist twisting and bending much btter.

*Straight bars are stiffer

*360 degrees of support to the strut tower and still allow access to adjustable dampers.

*oem fit and finish

*no obstruction to coolant or oil filler caps or other components.

Well, after having it installed on the car for over a week, the hood no longer popped open with force like the first day I closed the hood... I installed a strut brace to my car only because of the fact that I had to actually take out one of the drivers side brace support to install my Ultimate Racing CAI....I wasn't too comfortable removing that brace, but the addition of the JLC Cross brace, I feel better.....I never tracked my car so I would probably never really tell if a hinged brace is better or worse than a brace without these hinges...I also love the way asthetically it flows with the engine compartment compared to the OEM one thats shaped like a bow...On my initial install I broke off one of the screws because I overtightened one of the bolts which turned out to be a costly mistake because I had to change the top hat support which cost me $137 bucks which I didn't need to spend For anyone doing this install make sure you DON"T overtightened the bolts like I did!!

If you DIY'd this it would be helpful if you could provide a detailed description. A few folks have had some trouble with this install.

Every time I drive my car after I have gone through a car wash and left it outside in the cold, I can hear the chassis flexing, from the ice in the sunroof and other areas. After installing a stiffer suspension I also feel more chassis flex. So I am definitely aiming to install the M3 front brace and the Hotchkis rear brace when I get some $ saved up.

changed my plans on the OEM...at $210 shipped to Dinan $226 + 15% rebate...plus my buddy works there so I figured I would support him.
