Is it possible to de-chrome wheels?

Hi guys, I have a quick question. I recently returned a 2004 Porsche 911 after lease was up and they came with 20" wheels. I had the wheels chromed and now they want me to pay either $5,000 or get them de-chromed.

Is it possible to get wheels de-chromed? If so, anyone know of a place in Southern California that is able to perform a job like this? A price range would also be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I can't see why you can't get them dipped in acid to strip the chrome and paint them back to OEM silver or another color.

I'm not sure where you're located, but F1 Motorsport in North Hollywood can probably do it. They work on many high end cars as well. I was there when an owner of a CLK63 Black Series was getting the stock wheels painted and the OEM calipers painted so I assume they can paint your chrome wheels back to OEM color.

Have you tried to find anyone with a similar car that has a set of stock wheels for sale or for trade?

Ugh.

You had chrome wheels on a Porsche 997?

I guess the dealership is charging $5000 as asshole tax.

Just kidding!!! I'm sure your wheels were tasteful...I just normally do not like the thought of chrome on beautiful sporty cars.

You can probably go to a reputable shop that does powder coating. They will probably sand blast the wheels and powder coat the wheels back to an OEM finish. You can apparently just powder coat over chrome...but I hear that isn't recommended.

Good luck!
