Shat Nav...

Or twat nav whatever you want to call it.

Whats its issue with taking the stupidest routes going which involve two bit back lanes and 20mph traffic?

anyone care to enlighten me?

Doesn't fastest relate to time and not speed

Yep, answer is in your question Carlos. Fast route will/can take you the 'fastest route' which may or may not involve back lanes etc.

Dynamic route is virtually fastest route imo, but with notification of 'traffic problems ahead' and will re-calculate your route, hopefully to avoid the worst of the traffic problems. Worked for me once through and around York.

What I think would be good is a system that can 'air lift' you and the car through/around the Dartford Tunnel - never again will I return from France on a sodding Friday afternoon.

Sat nav is a useful guide but you should always use it with a bit of common sense as it will often make ridiculous suggestions which you know should not be followed...

Never TRUST your Sat Nav!

You can distinguish between A roads, B roads, country lanes etc, so as I said, exercise some common sense and choose to stick to the roads that YOU believe will get you there the quickest.

For example, the Sat Nav will always direct you off the nearest junction of a motorway, through a town which ends up being a nightmare. If you actually look at the roads, its often quicker to leave at a different junction, avoid the town and ultimately get there quicker...

Agree, and it's dead easy to zoom out with the BMW satnav and view the next junction if need be.

I find mine very useful for driving in London, but for long distance routes I don't bother with it.

Last weekend I drove from Kent to Grimsby. The sat nav was trying to take me up the A16 (single carriageway) whereas I knew the A1 would be much quicker. So I arrived about an hour earlier than the sat nav's suggested route would have taken me.

The traffic warnings always seem to be pure fiction too. I think they are about an hour behind real time.

I sometimes use a map to get to a general area, then set the nav for my destination, as the small streets are harder to find than the area.

Im going to lydd on sunday, so ill wait untill im near it then start the nav if you see what i mean.

Truthfully Del, I did think about you whilst at Folkstone, as I remembered what you'd told me.

This was last August and the journey down was fine, just the Friday coming back, hey ho.

I wouldn’t be without mine, looking for new business address is much better than maps and bits of paper and not to mention much safer.

I’d rather have it send me through the odd small village in an area I don’t know, than have to fathom my own way, but agree they’re far from perfect

I have Pro and I'm not impressed with it at all. I set it on a route that I know and it tries to send me down side streets when I know straight on is the correct way.
Saturday I was going up to Scotland up the A1. I come to the A66 turn to Darlington and it tells me to take this exit. So just for a laugh I take it and I go down the A66 to Darlington which is clearly the wrong way. About a mile or two the u turn symbol is shown so I turn round at the next roundabout and ten minutes later I am at the A66 turn at Scotch corner and it's now indicating the correct way to go.

It has also told me there is heavy congestion on my chosen route and I have ignored it only to find my chosen route trouble free

No full postcode search either as I can't get the last two letters in.

Shite for a brand that sells itself on being the class leader
