Clear Bra ?'s

Hi guys,

I just brought home a e90 325xi that is jet black. I want to get a clear bra but I'm a little confused.

1. What company would be the best? (3M, Avery, Llumar, etc.)

2. Anyone know any good shops that install clear bras in the Chicago Area?

Dealer we picked up the car from said it would be $795 installed. That includes Bumper, Hood, Mirrors, and Fenders. He said he uses Avery Film because it doesn't yellow like 3M and it has a lifetime warranty vs. 3M's 5-year.

I hear they are on their 3rd Gen. for 3M now and that it doesn't yellow anymore and is even more transparent?

Any shop names are appreciated. All I know of is Body-Skins Inc. off the XPEL Dealer locate.

Thanks.

I used the 3M product Xpel kit on my silver 325i. I had a good recommendation for

Protech
Mobile Service
Buffalo Grove, IL 60089
847-502-7003

so I used them. It's been on 6 months and I'm happy so far. I was a little nervous when he was installing it as he was trimming some of the edges with a razor knife but he left no marks on the car. He trimmed a few of the edges where they have had experience with pealing. I had a 20in hood bra kit and the front bumper done for $550. I talked to the guy at Body Skins and he was similar in price, maybe a bit less but I had a recommendation for Protech so I went with him. I know nothing about the other brands. Good luck.

Clear bra is great and I have used it for many years on all my cars. I would recommend protecting the headlights and fog lights. I bought the kits directly from X-pel and installed myself. Does not yellow or fade paint if that is a concern.

Was it difficult to install? I was thinking of a doing it myself on another vehicle.

I have done it a couple of times so easy for me. I would get the video they offer or watch the demo. The most important thing is to not touch it as little as possible to avoid leaving fingerprints. Use a MF towel to claen the area since any dirt or lint will be trapped. It is thick and you have to get it warm for it to be more pliable. Use losts of solution to wet the area. The alcohol solution is what makes it stick and there may be some bubbles but try and use the squegee to get all the water/alcohol out. You can use a blow dryer to help speed the process and secure the edges since that will try to peel up. Leave it in the sun to dry and that's it. Good luck!

How would you guys rate the following companies:

1) Ventureshield
2) 3M
3) Avery

Thanks. Trying to decide which one to get. It's for a black car. So one that's not as visible but still protects fairly well is what i'm looking for. Lifetime warranty on the Avery and Ventureshield. 5 Yr. on the 3M.
