Are OEM Rims soft?

This might be a dumb question.. but I have not driven the car much at all due to my short commute to work. I have out about 300 miles on the new car in about 2.5 weeks. I washed it on Sunday and the last 2 days noticed chips on my wheels. I know the road are horrible up here and still plenty or rocks and sand on the road.. but I find these chips starting to compile.. Did I do something wrong my using wheel cleaner to wash to clean my wheels?

It was painful the first one.. and I am just dealing with it.. but at this rate.. its gonna be horrible in a month or so.

I'd say the OEM finish is good, I wouldn't call it "soft"... But I would agree that the roads suck around here.

Also, I'd stay away from some of those wheel cleaners - some can be rather harsh on the finish. I use "Simple Green" to clean my rims.

That doesn't go for wheel wax, right? I like wheel wax. With that stuff on there a touchless wash gets almost all brake dust off.
