Euro Taillights

(Posting this on behalf of a friend.)

So you finally have your hands on Bavaria's latest expression of sport sedan perfection. You love its aggressive looks, cutting edge technology and sublime road manners. Some of you even love its iDrive. But take a step back and look closely at your new Bimmer, and tell me what's wrong, what just doesn't fit in amongst other current Bimmers and those gone before. That's right, your rear turn signals are RED.

Imagine you're driving down the Autobahn, dusk approaches, and you want to signal a lane change so you can pull over and absorb the grandeur of the German countryside. You hit your signal stalk, your lights flash, and the fast approaching Porsche coming up behind you has no idea if you're brake lights are flashing or if you intend a lane change. He panic stops, fishtails and flips his P-car in a Michael Bay-like explosion of fire and sound. Why did this happen? Because you took a lame US-spec tail lamp to the country that gave birth to your car and to high-speed motoring. Oops.

What I'm offering is a chance to match your car's origins to its lighting. To separate your new baby from looking a little too much like a Buick. To allow other motorists to know what you actually meant to communicate when you hit the turn signal. No other US Bimmer flashes red, so why should yours? European standards have required an amber rear turn signal since 1962 for a reason: it's safer and smarter, and darnit, it looks better.

The light still looks red, but rest assured, it flashes amber. Similar to the MB SL-Class, this Euro-spec light gives you the look of a real enthusiast, not a "bling" junkie simply looking for clear or red tails.

As you can see these are genuine, OEM units - you can even see when they were made!

They are SAE/DOT approved as well.

I know that the market for this won't be as wide-spread as it will be for the smoked/clear lights (we will be looking to sell those as well, as soon as they become available - stay tuned) but a true BMW enthusiast, and German car fanatic can see the importance and beauty of bringing your car up to Euro Spec without dramatically altering the look of the rear taillights.

I’ve already sold a few sets to some friends locally, and am looking to test the market elsewhere. I have two pair left, and the price is $310 per pair, plus shipping. Paypal preferred.

Why let the Americans at BMWNA decide that you don’t need the same lights as Europeans. They’ve been doing it for years, and enthusiasts have been going to Euro-spec for years in response.

Thanks!

Some pics of the euro lights installed. As you can see, there is very little difference – except where it matters.

As for the clear front lenses, as discussed elsewhere they are fairly pricey. What we are working on is an overlay that will mask the amber refelctor but still allow for an amber turn signal flash. Stay tuned.

The 2007 US market E90 will NOT have clears in the front. All cars sold in the US are required by Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 208 to have both amber front side lamps AND amber front side reflectors. This law has been in effect since the 1970 model year.

These same items are forbidden in Europe where amber can ONLY be used for turn indicators.

Can you point out the difference between these two? If I cannot tell the different from these up-close pic, how can people tell the diff. when it's installed on the car?

blinkers are amber instead of red... The amber is a dead on match to the color of the side markers and turn signals... just got a pair for myself...

I like the amber, but They might be up for sale soon. I cant make up my mind...

If someone is interested, make me an offer... it might be worth it to me to sell... PM if your interested...

I am not sure if you are asking or if you want us to play a guessing game. I would say yes, because it had a hint of orange in it. However, you can tell if you have euro tail by switching on your turn signal and if it blink orange, you have the euro tail...Otherwise it will blink red.
