+1. I do not valet my tacoma let alone my 335. Park somewhere else and walk. I have even run inside and asked to speak to the manager. Tell him, you want my business, I park my own car. Usually works.

I went to a BMW event with valet parking, and I got my car back with a smoky smell inside. Think that is ridiculous? An officemate went to a restaurant, valet parked, and 4 weeks later he gets a summons in the mail.

What's my point....he went round and round with the parking co. and got nowhere, so he threatened to sue this fine restaurant, and they told him if he feels he must, go ahead, there's nothing they are willing to do.

Valet is just not a good move any way you slice it. It s***** when we get invited to events where it's mandatory.

I never valet my car. Ever. If it's the only option, I turn around and leave. Heck, I'm sure many of these guys don't even know how to operate clutch and stick.

I'm sorry to see what happened to you. I'm wondering though - with the bumper this loose, doesn't it cause quite a bit of rattling?

I can't believe I read all the posts lol, I am always weary about valets.

I am just wondering what if you go there to the Valet ppl and say I have say $300 or so to someone that will help "confirm" that one of the valet damaged it.

I'm sure someone will squeal...

I have strongly secured it as best I can to the body of the car, and it isn't making a sound, but I haven't gone past 60 mph either. I will let you guys know when I find out what going to happen, apparently it will take about a week.

Wasn't it loose when you left the valet, though? I'm wondering how you could have missed the rattling on your way home.

I live 8 miles away and never did more than 30 mph, with my music on loud, and its stuck on pretty solid, it did not rattle.

I think you are over thinking this, trust me, if it happened to you, you would not have noticed, you can't see it from the passanger side mirror, and the car wraps around so its not noticeable looking straight at the car from the front.

One time my co-workers stuck company car magnets from my first job out of school all over the passenger side of my car. I mean completely covering the entire side.

I didn't notice for almost 24 hours. So I totally believe you about not noticing.

BTW, I feel for you, I'd be so livid.

Update.

The saga continues. So my original estimate from my insurance appraiser was $1000.00, roughly. Well I took my auto to Marcos Autobody in South Pasadena, they do work for a Dealer out here and from what I could gather good work, but they may not be the cheapest place, but since this is an insurance claim, I figured why not.

Wow, they are quoting me, $5000, $1000 for parts and $4000 for labor!! Seriously!! Now I am concerned my insurance will go up if they agree to cover this, originally my adjuster told me it would not affect my insurance at all, but now I am concerned. Any one with experience in this please respond and let me know your thought. I mean I know they are trying to get more money but come on.

The Valet insurance company is requesting 2 quotes to "evaluate" the claim. So they are neither accepting it or denying it. So they are pissing me off, I am pretty sure if I show them a $5000 appraisal they will flip and say hell no we will litigate. This is just eating up too much of my time.

$4000 in labor?! You can get a nice paint job on a whole car for $5000. That's a totally crazy amount for a bumper to be painted and installed, assuming it's just bumper damage and not any internal damage. But I don't see much room for internal damages with a $1000 parts cost. These people are crazy. I'd definitely do some research for some reputable places in your area and/or even consider having insurance cover just a painted bumper and do the install yourself. I don't know your background of experience but bumper replacement is pretty trivial, it's an easy first time DIY with some guidance.

never, never valet!

I never valet. I will drive around looking for that perfect corner spot - drives my friends nuts, but...

I was at the Grove, an upscale mall here in L.A. and watched a valet back a Bentley Continental into one of those up front spots for high-priced cars - and back into and up over the concrete stop. Didn't even bother to check out the back of the car - just locked it and walked away.

Never, never valet! They do not care about our BMWs.

Why $5K? What's bent/busted behind the bumper that needs $3K worth of
labor?

I would run over the vallet, skin him and sell his skin for leather handbags
to cover the cost

This is not a criminal case it is a business law issue, when you hand over the keys you pretty agree to everything. Look for signs saying we are not responsible, i'm sure they have them. However, depending on the amount of the claim if its low just pay for it, if it not you can sue but its probably won't be worth your time. The 5k claim is bogus, 4000 in labor? might wanna sue them!

While a business can't absolve it self from negligence , it will be hard to prove and comes down to basically if they want to settle it or not.

What to take away from this: Check before accepting your vehicle. or never valet.

Not a lawyer, but I took business law

Small claims court. If they don't show, the judge rules against them. Therefore....you're FORCING them to spend time/money/effort on this, or suffer summary judgment.
