Anyone with Magnalflow or custom exhaust setup, please chime in!

Okay, so before anyone goes all search nazi on me, i have literally listened to just about EVERY SINGLE damn 335 exhaust video there is on youtube.

my one conclusion: i want/need an exhaust, but refuse to pay 1k for just mufflers (the section3 exhausts). so because of that im opting to do a custom setup.

so those of you with magnaflow mufflers, is it a deep tone? which muffler style did you choose? the oval or the cylinders? if i want rasp should i NOT go with magnaflows?

and those of you with custom exhaust setups, what brand mufflers do you recommend for good high pitched tones and no droning? I have 6MT and will not be doing 2nd cat delete or DPs.

and just a general question for everyone.. what are good aftermarket muffler brands?

TIA!

those are some sick sick brakes you have!

as far as exhaust, if you want to save some $$ just buy a used system from someone. As long as its quality SS you can repolish it to look brand new. I picked up a full SS downpipe back system for $500.

Someone local here just did straight pipes with OEM tips. It's a really nice deep sound. I'm probably going with this route too...Too bad I dont have any clips.

I also heard the sound clips of the member who went muffler delete, and it did sound really good.I,m almost positive he just ran straight pipes and 4 inch tips from the secondary cats back, just muffler delete and everything else stock.

How much should one expect a shop to charge to run the custom pipes, no muffler, from teh secondary cats back?

Sorry, not trying to threadjack; just thought it was pertinent to the spirit of the thread. I've heard mufflerless, and I think it sounds alright.

$500??? You got over on that fool

I'm ready to buy another exhaust since I kept the car. Looking at AE and it ain't cheap.

OP -Good luck with doing something custom. This is a very aggressive magnaflow custom setup: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=122916

A member on here (RRGOO7) definetly has one of the sickest sounding exhausts on a 335i. He has a costum setup with magnaflow glasspack mufflers.

RRGOO7's "cheap" exhaust sounds better than any 335 I've heard. Just because he's not getting an Æ or some other exhaust like everyone else doesn't neccesarily mean Its cheap, but more unique.

I have the Magnaflow catback with the cylinders shaped mufflers and I believe 4in tip (stock midpipes and dp) . To put the system on you have to cut part of your stock exhaust. As for the sound, it is MUCH deeper than stock. It took some getting use to at first, but now I really enjoy the sound. I too have a 6mt, and there is a bit of drone around 1.9k-2.1k in low gears. As it was my first aftermarket exhaust, the drone initially killed me, but not it isnt bad at all. I guess I was super sensitive.

If you are looking for rasp, the magnaflow isn't for you. When choosing exhausts, its best to hear then in real life. Sound clips do not do justice at all. If your in the Irvine area let me know and you can come check out my exhaust. gl

Magnaflow's are some of the best mufflers in the industry, how is that cheaping out?

These exhaust companies charge and arm and a leg for 335 exhausts because they can, not because they are superior. A lot of them use mind boggling cheap mufflers in fact. I am also willing to bet that a lot of these "premium exhausts" won't last nearly as long as a magnaflow's internal core.

+1 Magnaflow is no slouch. They sell great volume for good reason.

Just like everything else around here, if it doesn't have a German name and a German import pricetag, it must be shit. It's an exhaust for chrissake.

I posted this over a year ago. I think I was first or second reporting the Magnaflow on my 335i. Unfortunately I only had the car maybe 1 month after I traded for the Z06 so I did not drive it much. I wasn't impressed with the sound, it gave me some drone and there was not much performance difference.

I have a custom exhaust as well, and its totally worth it. Different mufflers give you madd different sounds for sure, but once you find the one, you will be ultra happy.

Mine is a catback, 2.5 inch piping, secondary cats gone, with sebring (euro company) mufflers. My exhaust is loud as hell, drones a Lil from 2 to like 3. But man, its great! Low, loud buzz on the low revs, high pitched but still lower than stock sound while being loud as hell at the same time. Its def a head turner.

cool thanks guys. yeah, i just cant justify spending 1k+ on mufflers when i know i can get the same performance if not better out of a custom setup.

ive got a good friend that builds setups for 135's so i am just shopping around for mufflers. He will be doing all the work for me. Custom > Prebuilt! Doesnt hurt that a custom setup is much more economical too.

i may opt out of magnaflows though, they seem to be too low of a sound im lookin for.

depth of tone is greatly dependent on piping diameter and layout. It alters the pressure wave frequency.
