Rear Diff Change

This is from Bimmerworld.com - Has anyone done this?
Changing your cars gearing is one of the most effective performance improvements you can make for the money. This results in a very noticeable change in acceleration capability.

This differential upgrade is a stock-type open unit with higher gearing, for manual transmission and SMG cars only. Installation is a quick bolt-on, no speedometer calibration is necessary, and the differential comes with a factory BMW warranty. Custom differential units are also available with limited slip units, alternate ratios, and for automatic cars - please inquire.
Car Stock Ratio Upgraded Ratio Percent Change
325i 3.23 3.73 15%
330i 3.15 3.64 15%
The speed vs gear calculator is also posted on the web site.

What are some opinions on this mod?

LSD would be really nice to have,

we're geared to hit 155 easy, so I'm sure there's room to give yourself a bit more power in exchange for top speed

it's a pricy mod though........

I got a price of around $3600 with a core for a custom built LSD. Basically, they were going to buy a new bmw/zf diff, and build it up with 30/90 ramps.

It was offered as a special deal to me. I assume that what you are looking into would be more, unless they are now being mass produced somewhere.

Whoops. It seems your are just thinking of a higher geared open diff.. my bad.

EDIT: The following is based on my current tire size.

THat chart looks like a foreign language to me! Michael can u please explain what all that means?? I have a 325 step and went over 130 yesterday at redline! I almost got the car up to 140...I had to slow down though!
With the coilovers and sway bars man Its kinda hard to tell your going that fast the wheel is still really tight and no floatyness at all! if thats even a word!
Do they make a diff for the step auto?
