Chips Away.. or Dealer..???

Folks..

need to sound off a little.. and looking for opinions..

A nice kind sole.. has been rather keen getting out of their own car and left a calling card on mine...!!!!!!

A small scratch in the paintwork. vertical mark about 1.5" long...

Now I will get this sorted.. 'cos there is no way I can live with it..

I have two options.. a local Chips Away company... (who knocked a shopping trolly dent out of the wifes X3..last year).. who by all accounts did a very good job.. but did not paint, so don't know how good they are in that respect..

Or..

I go to the dealer who did a excellent job of rebuilding the car after its accident last year.. and I know will perform well..

The difference is going to be Mucho ..

Don't know exact amount until Monday when they both get to see the job..

But being obsessive... I know I want the best job possible.. and I know that should be from the dealer.. but to spend right now...

Any one have a ball park figure for what the dealer may charge for what I assume will be the whole door being re-spay.. ???

and any one have experience of Chips Away in Chelmsford doing paintwork??

Thanks All

Not Chelmsford, Have experience of Chips away in stockport. Used several times over last 5 years with the little knocks/scratches that cars pick up.

Always very pleased as could never tell where new paint started/finished (although I am no expert).

Plus as will only cost you 80-100 to sort a scratch of that size, it may even be worth going down Chipsaway route first?

I use Chipsaway Northampton (Paul Smith) - flawless work.

Used another Chipsaway guy previously and he was hopeless - all depends on the person doing the work.

I've used Chips Away in Bishops Stortford on 2 cars and I haven't been too impressed. When they had finished the paint quality was terrible, it looked like they had dropped a cloth on the floor before wiping it over the area with lots of fine scratches. It did polish up much better (or I would have had them re-do it) but it is still no-where near the factory finish.

Garage List
Seems to be some variations in the standard of work from Chips Away here, but then perhaps it's down to the individual blokes that carry out the work.

I've used the same bloke twice from our area and he's been spot on both times. Paid cash in hand 30 both times.

I've still got some space grey paint in a little tub if anyone wants it btw.

Thanks for all your input, I guess your right it's down to individual people at the franchise.

Not sure what the best route will be. I'll wait to see what the cost differances are and then decide to risk it or not.
