M3 full coversion with KW Clubsports
I finally finished my M3 conversion with KW dampers. In a word the handling is just awesome. No understeer...just point and go steering with lots of grip. It is amazing how hard you can toss the car in the corner now.
Lot of custom hardware in this build: • KW club sports (special thanks to Glen at KW) • Redesigned KW camber plates with 8 degrees of caster. These thing are noiseless...I mean nothing. • Custom toe links and brackets. • Custom swift to KW conversion kit with thrust bearings Orb Last edited by Orb; 11-25-2011 at 12:09 PM.. |

Of course they do....I engineered them. Oddly the aluminium links themselves are really cheap. The bearing and seals are not. Harold has the exclusive rights on the toe links. A lot of FEA analysis went into this so it behaves very much like a M3 toe link under load.
Goto thank My dealer - (Autowest BMW) - who helped validate the install and gave me a huge discount. They spent 28 hours for everything. I am really amazed how good the car works over sharp bumps. The KW's shines in this area. I really had to slow down my input on the wheel the car responds very quickly. Razor sharp steering is under statement..no push. I still got to play with dampening more. It is close to right but got to stiffen the rear rebound a bit. Orb Last edited by Orb; 05-03-2009 at 07:51 PM.. |

The spring rates are 390 for the front and 890 for the rear so it is stiffer than the stock by 2.5x. At speed below 20 MPH it is stiffer and you feel it over rolling bumps but big sharp bumps I can't even feel/hear which was I didn't expect to be the case. It is no way harsh or even noisy but it is firm and that was expected.
The best way to describe how it handles is that is feels 1000 lb lighter and then some. The car will get better once I develop the dampening setup more. Orb |

It cost me way to much as the development was far more then the final cost of the parts. This took 10 months to get here with lot help behind the scenes. Most of setup has been validated for some time but refined to high level now.
- Your looking at all the M3 parts and sway bars so what every that cost. - KW Clubsport kit with camber plate no springs 2600.00 - Swift springs 400.00 - Front end link – sway bar 150.00 - Custom parts that matter that only Harold can get - 500.00 - Toe Links – custom (ask Harold) - Rear Hotchkis brace 350.00 It not cheap but it is certainly an Audi R8 killer now. I pulled 1.1 G with street tires today. Orb Last edited by Orb; 05-04-2009 at 08:44 PM.. |

Are the KW clubsports off-the-shelf models? I seem to recall you considering custom valving a while back. Did you modify the dampers or keep the them stock?
thanks, justin |
