All sorted, well after 6 days without a replacement car! Even the loss of power that I had a few times has gone.

Hi fellas,

I only joined the forum the other day. Im thinking of getting an e92 320d but all this talk of parts failing and the likes is seriously making me think twice. As im in the Republic of Ireland aswell, i really dont want to be buying a car and paying VRT to import it to Ireland for it to have endless faults which will have to be payed for at my own expense to fix.

Just wondering am I just being overly cautious and reading into this too much or do the 320d have serious reliability issues ??

Any help would be great. Thanks

Stephen.

I am sure the faults are only a tiny % of the ones they sell, you are always going to read posts about faulty cars as peeps don't tend to post when the car is working as it should.

Just go and get it.....................and........................ .......make sure it has a good warranty

oh...:welcome: to the forum, it's a lovely place on here

As Steve says, in the great scheme of things the number of cars with problems is going to be very small. However, the percentage of people who complain about a problem is much higher than the number that will praise a car that has given them no trouble. Have a look at a few other forums and you'll find it's the same everywhere.

In general the 320d must be a pretty good car as it's BMWs best seller. Yes, there have been issues over the years (swirl flaps and turbo failures on high mile E46s), but the continual improvements mean that these have been addressed and there doesn't (yet) seem to be a systematic problem with the E90.

In fact, aside from fuel pump issues on the early 335i that are well documented here the main issues for the E9xseem to have been more minor niggles and dealer prep problems, compounded by the inability of certain dealers (not just those taking a pasting at the moment) to rectify those in a timely and respectful manner.

The car, other than the first and oly fauls is GREAT. It is even, dare I say, better than my old 2007 Golf GTi.

P.S. UK model gets 3 years warenty as opposed to the Irish 2 Years. VRT is only 5 to 6k euros too.

Thanks for all the replys and the welcome to the forum . I really want one of these cars and have my eye on one in the UK.

I thought that it may be the case that theres always some things go wrong with some cars, as is the case with any car. But when I started reading through this thread and seeing things like clutches commonly needing to be replaced and some major other things going wrong i just wanted to meke sure there wasnt recurring problems with this model.
