It just seems lame that very few dealers want to post their prices in here. It just looks like sellers are ashamed to print their ridiculously high prices. I'm not pointing out these scoops in particular, because scoops are pretty inexpensive. But as a general practice, having to play a silly PM game ticks me off. I simply won't go to the trouble and patronize someone who wastes ludicrous amounts of time.

Installation Instructions for Air Scoops

Hey everyone,

As great as they are, these scoops don't come with any installation instructions , so I'm going to share my experience with you. These are not official instructions, and in no way do I guarantee the accuracy or outcome if you should choose to follow them. Follow them at your own risk!

Tools Needed:
  • T-30 torx driver
  • 2 Flathead screwdrivers
  • Regular pliers

Step 1: Open the hood in a well lit area, preferably outside or with bright lights behind you. I performed my work on a cloudy day outside, and it was fine.

(Steps 2-5 below are to be done on both sides of the kidney grill)

Step 2: Pull up the rubber strip against which the hood rests when closed. This strip can be seen below in the first picture, and it's labelled with arrow #2. This makes it easier to work with the kidney grills, IMO.

Step 3: Take out the clip which holds down the outside edges of the factory air intake tubes. This is labelled with arrow #3. To remove the clip, grab the middle of the clip (the little black nipple), and pull the clip pin straight up/out. It will come out fairly easily, but it does take a little effort. Once the clip pin is out, take two flat edged screwdrivers and pull up on the clip (on both sides at same time) until it pops out. After it comes out 1/4 inch or so, you can pull it with your fingers or some pliers (be careful not to break it).

Step 4: Remove the two torx screws above each kidney grill, as seen in the picture with arrow #4. This takes a T-30 torx bit, and they unscrew very easily with a screwdriver/drill.

Step 5: Carefully and slowly pull the top of the bumper out from the car (3 inches or so, so you can fit your hand behind the grill. There are five black plastic clips which hold the grill in place, and you will need to squeeze each one (takes some effort!) and push outward to pop out the grill. I found the ones on the side and bottom were easier to start with, as it made the top ones come out much easier.

Step 6: With the grill removed, gently slip the scoop up and align it under the air intake tube. It takes a little maneuvering to get it into place. Align the holes on the air scoop with the holes at arrow #3 and #4 (innermost hole closest to middle of car). The plastic clip will actually go through outside hole of the scoop, and the torx screw will go through the hole on the outside of the scoop. The torx screw only goes into the hole about 1/8"-3/16", so you won't see it come out the other side. Just tighten the Torx screw modestly (don't overtighten). Also, the hex nut may break off the scoop if you don't line it up perfectly while screwing in the torx screw, but don't worry if it does - it still works fine (just doesn't look as pretty). Lastly, re-insert the clip pin into the middle of the plastic clip to tighten it. Your scoop is now firmly in place!

Step 7: Re-align the bumper top by gently pushing it back into place (if not already lined up), and then re-insert the outer Torx screws. Tighten them down (don't overtighten).

Step 8: Push the kidney grills back into place, gently pushing around the perimeter with a finger or two. I would advise not to push on the middle of the grill to avoid breaking off one of the "fins."

You are done! (pictures follow)
