oh great, so you spent $1100 for more performance/sound only to baby it to maintain stock mpg.

LoL. Something like that.

I'm averaging about 19 mpg city now, normal driving.

I think everything I do to my car should void the warranty, but when I took my car in for it's first scheduled maintenance, the only comment I got from the service people was "cool wheels!"

climkt. How much does your local shop sell GruppeM intake for 325i?
I heard that the local shop in Singapore(don't know the name) sells intake for 320i U$820.

If the price is reasonable, I would buy it from Singapore, rather than buying from U.S and ship it to here.

hi dankim, will make enquires for u. personally, i don't think gruppem
can give your e90 and mine more than 15hp max. i might as well save up for ASA supercharger and get at least 50hp.

I haven't timed it, because I think it might be a little difficult to press a stop watch and shift at the same time, and secondly, I don't have a stopwatch .

Post #2 of this thread has the dyno. Max wHP increase of 5.5 exactly, and torque increase of about 8 ft-lbs, but level increases were seen throughout the rpm range. This is comparing the best of three runs each before and after the mod.

i feel that based on your figures, gruppe m is more a visual CF mod and aural /sound mod rather than a true performance enhancement mod. i think it costs about 1000us dollars for the gruppe m here but the hp gains are not quite worth the financial sacrifice.

oh yes frogman, you seem like a true 6 spd MT guy. i just changed my e90 m short shift to the z4 m coupe illuminated leather knob. fits perfectly with stock boot. feels better than the e90 short shift and it has a night time cosmetic enhancement- not very expensive-100us dollars. u may want to try it too. cheers.

With most any car, save perhaps one with forced induction, I wouldn't expect dramatic HP increases with small items like exhausts or intakes.

In the good ole' days, we used to add bigger carbs, intake manifolds, extrude hone them, port tune, change the pistons for higher compression, bore out the engines or stroke them. You could change the valves, camshafts, and have fun, but the BMW engine already runs a high compression, the intake runners are already smooth, nobody is going to touch the engine block, and the double VANOS would make cam changes technologically challenging.

I know this is an expensive mod, but several plunk down over $1K to get clear corner headlights that don't do anything for performance. So at this point, this is the price I pay for a little extra oomph. Btw, I know many are interested in intakes for sound, but this was never my objective. I was actually surprised at how much the sound changed by adding this.

I noticed someone did this; maybe it was you. I also wondered about the B&M or Rogue SSK.

Btw, on the video, I know I had a running start, but if I had a stopwatch, I'd time that little run to 100mph just out of curiosity.

hi ksfrogman, after trying 3 knobs on the e90, i felt that i was not a fan of the chrome leather stock. the m short shift was rough with the perforated leather and was a bit too chunky for my liking. one also tended to palmar flex the wrist during shifting. it would have been better , if the centre console was higher, to appreciate a short shift.
Z4 coupe/roadster's m illuminated knob is less chunky, has smooth leather and has the right height to allow 2 finger/digit shifting without having to flex the wrist- when resting on the arm rest. absolutely fab!
you can pm me anytime, if interested.

Thanks for the reply. $1000? Damn.
ASA supercharger? Did they come out already? I searched it and I don't find any supercharger for e90.

I might consider that.

As for the supercharger, I was considering that, but realistically, this being my everyday driver, it might be a little impractical to force all that air and GAS into the engine. This intake gives me a glimpse into what that might be like. When you get on the throttle, this intake does more dramatically decrease my gas mileage. Maybe the money invested in forced induction might be better placed in a piggy bank for the M3?
