Euro-Delivery without leaving Europe?

Hi! newbie from Switzerland here
I'm looking to buy E92 xDrive (328xi), prices seem a lot better in the US than in here. So I got this crazy idea - maybe I can just fly to the US, buy the car there, have it ED, pick it up from Munich and drive to home Zurich. Pay import tax and VAT here (which will still keep the price low), and voila.
Did someone try this? Do I have to be a US citizen/green card holder in order to use ED? phoned bmwusa now, the representative was totally clueless.

mangisto: sounds great but some form of residency and locally issued identification is usually required to initiate purchase/order.

Besides you'd end up with a US spec'd car. I don't know how that would compare with European spec's in terms of passing certain emissions regulations/inspections.

I haven't thought about that... well in any case it won't be a good idea for me to be a pioneer doing that - it's the first car I buy - so unless there's someone here who actually did it, I'll have to forget about it

yes it is so annoying that BMW who design and build their cars a few hundred kilometers from here sell it cheaper on the other side of the globe. I guess they do that because in the US they have to compete with all the japanese brands that sell well there... in europe they don't have real competition
