LCI Paddle Shift Swap - Help Needed

I purchased some paddles from a 2011 E93 (the type with a + and -). I have a 2009 LCI E90 that has the SSG paddle type where you can push or pull each paddle. I want to convert this to the + and - style where each paddle can only be pulled (no push function).

My SSG paddles have three wires (push, pull and ground). The new + and - style paddles from the 2011 E93 only have two wires, but in the pins 1 and 3 positions. I would have expected one wire to be in pin 2 position on each of the paddles.

Also, I know that there's a DIY for a resistor that may need to be bridged. I've searched on the forum, but can't find enough information to wire these paddles properly.

My questions:
1. Do I need to bridge resistors?
2. Do I just need to move one of the wires to pin 2 (earth) on each of the paddles? I would think that I'd have one paddle with wires in positions 1 and 2 and one with wires in positions 2 and 3.

Attached are some pics of the new paddles that I'd like to install. Notice the wires are the same color and are in positions 1 and 3.

I believe if you have SSG paddled then the answer to your two questions is yes, you need to bridge the resistors and rearrange the wires. I just did this a couple months back, but it was on a 2006 that didn't have paddles to begin with.

There are several good DIYs out there that cover the subject very well. Do a search for paddle DIY and take your pick.

Thanks. I finished this several months ago and they work fine. I just had to bridge two resistors and remove two resistors.

Congratulations! I'm starting mine this weekend. I had to read through all of the other DIY's before I started finding the ones that have helped me. I'm going from LCI paddles to DCT, so I will be adding resistors to the DCT wire harness and swapping pin positions.

I just ordered a set and I think I'll need help with this too.. I have a 135is n55 dct .. Is this plug and play or am I going to have to mod it?

How many wires are on the OEM paddle connector that connects into the Multi-Function switch? Measure the resistance between p1n 1 and pin 3 on the same connector and the measure again, but this time pull and hold the paddle switch (Take mesurements on each side). If the answers are 2 wires, then you will have to move pin 2 to pin 3 on the DCT paddle. If 3 wires, then you still move the pin 2 to pin 3 and also add a wire to pin 2 which will need to go to ground.

Paddle DIY
This is the one i'm using with my shop. They are helping me fab up the harness. Mine are the newest version DCT. I want the m3 ones to add the lever extensions like you did. The new ones are from EAS billet aluminum.

BMWE934me - here is a photo of my interior.. The M tech wheel with lci paddles. The trans is DCT 2013 135is. I'm hoping that this is a match.

Looks like yours is the steptronic with no sport button. I have the DCT with sport button. I don't think the information is going to be the same.. I have the LCI shifters right side pull up shift and left hand side pull down shift..

The sport button sends info to the transmission, not the paddles. The paddles are an extension of you shifter sending a signal to your shift box and tell it to shift up or down. It takes over the function of the manual shift mode of your DCT shifter. The mod will still work. You will need to remove your steering wheel trim, unplug the paddle harness from the MF switch and measure resistance between wires 1 and 3, then hold the paddle switch in and measure again. Repeat on the opposite side. If the measurements are the same as I show in the DIY or close, you can do the same thing and add resistors to the DCT harness. If it just shows the circuit is open or closed, then the DCT paddle would be a direct plug n play. Just make sure that if the wire on your current paddle harness are in pins 1 and 3, you will have to change the DCT paddle harness by moving the pin from pin 2 to pin 3.

BMWE934me- mine are like the bottom ones currently and I would like to change them to the top ones like you did and add the lever extensions from EAS..

Just one more question, If we have the same wheel (mtech) can just use this wheel or should buy the BMW performance wheel with the precut holes to make is easier?

This diagram may shed some light on how the circuit is designed to work. Take in mind that the DCT paddle, only has a normally open position. It will register as an open circuit. When the DCT switch is closed, it shorts out the circuit. Just one continuous wire.

If your M-Tech does not have paddle provisions and you don't feel comfortable making the provisions like I did, you can get an M-Tech or M3 with DCT provisions in them. Since your M-Tech wheel already has LCI paddle provisions, then you can attach the DCT paddle and see where you need to trim. If you mess up, it's not in a visible area anyways.
Look at the previous post I made with the diagram and how the paddle works. It will be helpful when you start this project.
I bought my paddles from creative motoring on ebay. I doubt I'm the best, but I will give my best.
