DIY- Rear Fog Lights
|

US cars can have the rear foglights enabled by replacing the light switch with the Euro version. These are the same lamps already installed as adaptive brake lights. While the rear fogs are switched on, the adaptive brake light function is disabled.

Euro Switch Price going up
I just bought the euro switch from JD at Crown automotive. In stock and on its way. Apparently BMW is raising the price to $98.37 so I would suggest getting ASAP if you want the lower price.

Just did this one on my 2009 LCI E90, worked like a charm.
I used a pen shaft, and a 2x2 flat Lego tile, with out a hitch. (Thanks to whomever posted that idea, PERFECT!) Now it did take me 3 tries to get the length of the penshaft JUST right. 20 minutes start to finish. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Would anyone want to sell me their OEM switch if you replaced it with the Euro switch? If you live in LA, it would be ideal for pickup. PM me.

lol easy to do. I got my switch before I even owned my car, paid $48 bucks for it.
Such perks working at the dealer at the time LOL. Popped it out, replaced the switch, done. And there wasnt even a DIY yet out there for people even replacing the switch..most people didnt know about it. |

No, I don't think you'd want to do that. The other point of the fog lights is that when you brake hard they come on to let the driver behind you extra know that you are stopping. If you had them on every time you braked you'd defeat this purpose. That, and really annoy people behind you at stop lights.

I have read almost all of the threads regarding the rear foglights, but I haven't found the answer that I'm looking for. Has anyone tried swapping the U.S. 09 knob (with the chrome trim) into a 07-08 Euro switch assembly? Tischer said that they're unable to obtain the 09 Euro switch at this time. Therefore, I was thinking about buying the 07-08 Euro switch, then swap out the knob from my 09 U.S. switch. Is the knob easy to remove from the switch assembly? Thanks.

I did this mod a while ago, but regardless its a great mod, I only saw a few posts on price, around 75$ . But i just used some house hold items and put it togther. It costs no money and it works perfectly. Just an idea.

There's a thread over at "the other guys" on how to modify the US OEM switch to activate the rear fog button as well. Takes around 30 minutes, uses a wire nut and a bit of plastic for parts. It's essentially Joe's mod from back in May, but it includes pictures.
http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=379152 I did mine this morning. Works great and costs little to nothing. No waiting for the switch, either. Wish I'd seen this thread with the Lego. Would not have made a difference in how I did it, but it is cute. FWIW, George |
